I was reading a book about bodybuilding nutrition and it was discussing how healthy bodybuilders are because of what they eat and that they exceed the recommended doses of vitamins and minerals and other vital nutrients but the one we lack as bodybuilders is calcium. It says that the reason for this that bodybuilders like to stay away from fat because it gives you the flat look and that dairy is loaded with fat. As I was reading this book alot of it seemed oppositte of some of the nutrition advice discussed on here and really didn't make sense, it also promoted weight training on an empty stomach because of hunger pengs can't really remember exactly why. So i wasn't really sure how reliable the calcium deficiency theory is. Just thought I'd share, I beive the book was "Iron Man's Bodybuilding Nutrition"

I have been working on the assumption that about 3 servings of dairy a day would get me near my RDA of calcium (800mg)
1 serving of dairy = 1/3 pint of milk or 25g cheese or 1 pot of yoghurt.
I just checked the nutritional tracker and cottage cheese doesn't seem to be such a good source, but the others are 200+mg each.
Green leafy veg is another source but probably the best source is the sort of fish where you eat the bones, such as whitebait or tinned sardines.
So I suppose it depends on the individual, but it's certainly possible to get a good calcium intake whilst eating clean

I take in a minimum of 1000 mg. of calcium per day. Why anyone would "lack" it makes no sense. Calcium is of utmost importance with all the protein we do for bone mass.

I take calium pills although I don't think that I need them...I eat lots of fat free cheese and skim milk. Fat free cheese has lots of protein. Bordens fat free cheese has the amount of calcuim as 8 oz. of milk

I didn't think it made sense either, I wanted to get a book on bodybuilding nutrition but borders didn't have anything decent there. I thought that book was going to be it, but when i started reading it sounded like it was a bit out dated or the writer had no idea what he was talking about.

one glass of milk (300 mL)has 352mg of calcium .
i consumme more or less 3-4 glass daily.
so thats more then 1000mg + calcium on cottage cheese.

Kind of odd bodybuilders would lack calcium - whey protein, skim milk, cottage cheese, almonds, etc are all staples of my diet and have a good amount of calcium.
