I've recently read on the Gatorade Sports Science Institute that you need to get like .77 grams per pound of body weight. I know a lot of bodybuilders say you need 1 to 2 grams per pound, and that you need to consume a lot of protein right after your workout, but the Institute also says that it only takes like 7 grams of protein right after your workout to start the protein synthesis to rebuild. So are all the extra shakes and stuff REALLY necessary for a strength trainer?

yes all that extra protein is necessary. I posted an article a week ago in the specific diets.....forum written by Dave Draper who discusses why we need all that extra protein. Remember muscles aren't the only think in your body that uses protein. Check the article out.
