Here is my story:
I have been "lurking" for a couple of weeks and finally decided it was time to get serious. I am 43 and been overweight my whole life. I finally maxed out at 310 the end of last year. I was going to have Gastric Bypass surgery in January of this year, but got up off of the Pre-op bed and went home. (Scared to death, decided it wasn't the right decision for me). Now why would I want to take such drastic measures to lose weight you ask? I am getting married in Las Vegas on March 18, 2005. I am so excited, but having difficulty "slimming" down. I had managed to lose 25 pounds, but have been at a plateau since April. :(. I finally got motivated and joined a gym close to home. I get off work at 1:30pm and go immediately to the gym. This gives me time to work out before I have to pick up my son at school. I am 5'2, and carry a good majority of my weight around my waist (thanks to the birth of my son, I never took the intiative to lose it). They say my goal weight should be around 115pds, I highly doubt I will ever see that weight. So, realistically I would like to eventually reach 140. Now, for my wedding, I would LOVE to be under 200 pounds, but highly doubt that is possible. If I could lose 50 pounds between now and then I would be soo happy!! My biggest problem is calories. I think my body feels like it is in starvation mode all of the time, and everything I eat goes to fat. I try to eat around 5 - 6 meals a day, with two meals consiting of Slim Fast but my caloric intake is usually around 1200 calories. Is this the reason that I am not losing? I could careless about how much I weigh, what I do care about is the inches going down. So far in 2 weeks I have lost 6 inches (arms and legs, 1/2 inch around middle). So, if anyone can tell me how many calories I should be eating a day to lose weight, it would greatly help! (Sorry this is so long!)

Hi, thanks for the welcome. I did do my profile. I'm just having issues with how many calories I need to lose weight. According to this site, it's over 3000 calories to maintain my weight. If I subtract 500 from that, I have to eat 2500 calories, that sounds like a lot of food! Am I wrong?
