I started working out about 3 weeks ago, lifting weights. I'm a figure skater not a bodybuilder, so I will eventually reach a "perfectly fine" plateau with the weight lifting.

I have a feeling that skating alone will not be enough to maintain the strength gains, but frankly weight lifting is not exactly my favorite hobby. I do it because it's good for me.

When you have reached your goal fitness level, what do you have to do to maintain it?

Take in an adequate supply of protein to maintain lean mass, and a caloric intake that does not overpass your energy expenditure(including the normal operations for living...bmr, heart, etc.) You will need to find this point out, but if you have been keeping up with your diet, you should have a decent idea. You will also need to do some physical activity, strength train and cardiovascular work, though not on a gain basis, but on a level plateau so to speak. No matter how much protein you take in, if your body senses at some point it has no need for some of the current lean tissue you have, it will devour it first chance it gets. Then your metabolic rate will change in accordance, as your fat to muscle ratio will be compromized. This is the normal aging process, and nothing any of us can do about it. Even world record holders for instance, the body does not care. If it is not maintained, well, the evidence is out there for all to see....

I'm been extremely active all my life but I know how important weight training is for really sculpting the body that you want. :dumbbell:
I'm satisfied with my body today but I keep on weight training. I now work more with plyometric or strength endurance than direct mass or strength.

Like right now I'm training 1 hour 2x a week. Will I be lifting this often forever?

My metabolism has never been a problem (I'm naturally thin), but I want to maintain the strength that I'm building.

But don't you like to weight train? I love and I miss it so much if I cannot do it for more than 3 days........ :dumbbell:

You need to find some kind of pleasure in what you do. If you don't like "typical" weight training then start doing circuit training, or what about some Body Pump classes? Great fun and you'll keep your body toned.
