I was on nightshift last night, we were really busy and I was very tired coming home, and looking forward to going to sleep.
I unlocked the front door and pushed it forward, but it would only open a couple of inches as my husband had inadvertently put the chain on the door.
Unfortunately there is a door sensor for the burglar alarm, and the familiar beep signalled I had only a few seconds to key in the code.

I ran round the side of the house, had to deadlift the bag of heavy stone chips which I had used to wedge the gate shut and stop it from rattling, but I hadn't even made it to the back door when the siren started screaming.

I got in the house, ran to the keypad and switched the alarm off, but not before waking the whole neighbourhood.

Why do these things always happen after a busy nightshift?

Only to make sure you so awake and wired that you don't get a proper sleep. Hope you got some rest anyway.
