I am 16 and I am at 11% body fat. I ran 600 miles during summer break and more miles than anyone else on my team, I tuned down my weight lifting down from 4 times a weak to 1 to 2 times a weak during the season that just ended, so im getting back to my old training scedule. I ate about 2500 calories everyday, it was all healthy food because I dont like junk food, it tastes bad. I am pretty skinny and don't have much fat on my body except for obliges, that seems to be where most of my fat is. My dad says that I got that trait from him and thats where I store fat. I'm just afraid that because of that trait I will never be able to get rid of the fat there, and that i'm messed for life. I dont care if my obligues look a bit muscular as long as they don't look fatty. Am I right in my thought that im messed for life.

Well that was helpful hecdarec.

You are messed up for life in terms of that's where you will always store fat, but doesn't mean they will always look flabby. We all store fat in different places, and I don't think anyone is completely happy with there body.

You're at 11% body fat so you can't really be fat at all, how much muscle mass do you have? You might be a really skinny guy with little muscle and little fat which would make the places you store fat look worse. I think you should opt to gain muscle and lower your body fat just a little, bring it down to 10% and keep gaining muscle, this will give you a toned look and should improve the appearance of your obliges.

Don’t give up or get disheartened.

harvest....depending on how much he weighs...droping 1 % isn't a whole lot.......if hes 150lbs.......since I obviously run track or long distance, can't way much more than that....thats only like him losing 1 1/2 lbs of fat?

I'd sat gain a lil muscle and fil in better, so it will distract form your sides, which is why i do heavy shoulder work, makes my shoulders broader, and my waist narrower.

Just a thought, but I don't think he needs to loose anymroe weight.

Well depends where he loses the fat, I didn't mean for him to go on a diet and lose weight. I think he should gain lean muscle and by doing that your body fat usually lowers anyway.

harvest he can't "control" where he loses fat from, no one can.......when you loose fat, its from everywhere, not just sides.

I have a very thick waist, about 39......however I have a 57 1/2 shoulder span( around shoulders) Which helps make my less than perfect stomach so obvious.

However since he is a more than likly cross conurty runner, I would say he needs to think about what he wants........body builder? or athlete? Very very few athlets have 6 packs, or a nice bod......when it comes to body building standards. However have a good atheltic body, which is what he needs.

Basicly put you don't need nice obliques to be a good long distance runner

I know you can't control where you lose fat from, that's why I said it depends where he loses it.

I'd agree that he obviously doesn't want to become a bodybuilding since he's a runner, however he's saying that he doesn't care if his obligues look a bit muscular as long as they don't look flabby. And the only way he's going to tone that area up is by making lean muscle gains and lowering his overall body fat percentage. This isn't ideal however if he is a serious runner. So yeah like you said he needs to decide what he wants to achieve, body builder or athlete.

gats.....Dont worry so much about the fat that might be in one area. I have that problem to and I sometimes ask myslef how I could change the way I look. Now though I think about the rest of my body and how it looks. I am starting to feel better about the way I look and I know that if I pnly think about that one little problem then it's going to ruin the self confidence I have gained. Im not sue if that made sense to anyone but it did to me.
