How are russian presses done again?

Generally seated shoulder presses are bad news. They encourage a back arch, whick does a number on the spine and transfers the load from the delts to the uppper pecs. For the Russian presses, all you have to is sit an the floor with your nearly straight legs semi-spread in front of you and press the dumbells.

Unless you are a super flexable mutant, you will be unable to arch. Try it-and you will end up on your in no time flat. Your pecs will check out and your delts will heve to sweat it out by themselves.

I have been doing these lately and really like them. I can really feel the isolation when doing Russian presses versus seated presses. It takes a little getting used to, but once you are comfortable, look out!

The main reason the lower back arches in seated presses is to much weight!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not that the exercise is bad. If that was the case then pro's would not use them. Stay low in the weight till you can complete the reps with out arching the back. By going nice and slow your deltoids will grow.

With all do respect, just because most pro's do something one way, doesn't necessarily mean it's the best way to do something. Pro's used to do alot of things 20 years ago that have gone the way of the Doo Doo. Some people look good despite their routine, not because of it.

Oh I agree with you on that I was saying that most of the time when you see the back arching it is because of too much weight.....

I agree with you mutt, if you can be disciplined enough to cut down on the weight a little bit and maintain strict form, seated presses can be very effictive. Russian presses just help take away the ever-present temptation to cheat.
