Usually, I place my pinky on the ring but, today I placed my index over the ring and I felt it to be harder. What do you guys think of this? Is putting your pinky over the ring a good place for your hands to be on the bar or should the grip be wider?

I've always been told pinky on the ring, and I like it the best I guess.

The width of the grip is dependent on the size of the person; don't get so caught up on where someone tells you that you should place your fingers in comparison to the rings as the end all. Use the rings for your own personal refernece points when getting set for a lift.

For example, one of the females that I train is a good 120 pounds smaller than me, and her frame reflects that as well. A "middle-finger grip on the ring" on a bench for her is wider than the same grip for me. So, she benches closer (in reference to the ring) than I do.

usually depends on arm length I think.

Arm length, shoulder girth, chest size, torso length, leg length, over all height, tissue attachment and position, etc., etc. Just find what works for you and helps improve your lift and form, and go with it.

What i do is do a pushup with out thinking, your body is going to naturaly do what will work best for it. where ever my hands fall thats where my hands go on the bar. works for me.

I place my index finger on the ring. I used to put my ring finger on the ring but found that moving the hands out just another inch or so was putting my forearms perpendicular with the ground when i was at the bottom of the movement, which is what they say gives you the most power. It also felt the most comfortable for me so that's what ive done ever since.

"my forearms perpendicular with the ground when i was at the bottom of the movement"
quoted from Firehawk734

thats commonly used as the proper grip for bench pressing.
But it also depends on tricep/pectoral muscle strength
