Hi. I'm 20(almost 21) and Im REALLY underweight. My friends say I need to gain fat/weight first in order to gain muscle mass, so I was wondering if anyone knew anyway ways to gain fat/weight. Like, if there are any drinks or supplements out there for gaining weight/fat. Anything will do please. Anyone? Thanks.

Start eating. The only folks who cannot gain weight are those with an improperly designed diet for their needs.
You need a calorie surplus.

What about using protein shakes to gain weight? It has many calories.

most people focus on no more than 3 big meals a day...breakfast, lunch, dinner.....but besides there there should be 3-4 snack times...this is where you would drink a protein shake with (20-60g protein why during day, cassein before sleep), nuts(almost, filberts, walnuts, etc), raisings, trailmix, sandwiches(chicken, tuna(no mayo),turkey, peanutbutter....make sure bread is 'whole' or 100%), nutrition bars, apples, bananas, etc....
weight gainers are usually sugar/fat laiden and are not best ways to gain weight....gaining fat is not a great way to 'gain' weight...just focus on gaining a quality of 1-2 pounds a month...do this in combination with heavy weight lifting 3-5 times a week... gl

Well don't over eat because that is possible. If you don't eat alot and you wake up the next day eating whatever you want then there is a possibility that you could get really really sick.I am actually glad to hear that you are a person who wants to gain weight many don't want to even if its the right thing to do. When I was gaining weight there where a few things that I was doing. Howeve, in my case I didn't want to gain wieght but I was. I ate alot at night time past nine. If you eat before sleeping wehn you fall asleep your metabolisum doesn't work as fast as when you are awake. Don't eat real fatty foods like fast food all the time. Even though they may help you gain weight they can also give you high cholestural and things like that. Well hey now I have to go. Sorry about the spelling I do know what I'm saying though.

what you have to realize is that you really cant worry about getting fat, to gain muscle you have to take in calories. I am a hardgainer as well and that is the only way i get bigger is to eat a lot and to drink whey protein shakes twice a day. you cant worry about getting fat bc as long as you are working out 5-6 days a week and getting aerobic exercise in there you will only really gain muscle.
