Hey there. I’ve been on this program for about 7 weeks now. I am 6’2” and when I started I weighed 205lbs. My goal was to lose some weight (about 15-20lbs) and firm up. My problem areas are my mid-section…butt, hips, and stomach mostly. I’m totally happy with my legs as they are. My arms are ok too.
Anyway, I was doing the weight training and on my off days I’ve also been doing 40 minutes of cardio – elliptical machine. After about a month into it I was starting to feel pretty discouraged because I wasn’t really seeing the results I wanted. And then I made the mistake of weighing myself. After going to the gym almost EVERY day I hadn’t lost a pound. Everyone kept saying that muscle weighs more than fat and not to pay any attention to the scale, but I’m telling ya, it’s hard when you’re putting all this effort in, I wanted to see some kind of positive change. I was getting discouraged but I kept on.
I’m still a long way from my goal but I’m finally seeing some positive changes now. I have lost about 3 or 4 pounds, and my body seems to look better. And I am really noticing the muscles in my arms…especially biceps. So things are going pretty good.
But I have a couple of questions…
1. What is the best way to work on your butt? I read somewhere running on the treadmill is the best. True?
2. I really like using the elliptical machine for cardio. Is it ok to do 20 minutes on that and then switch and do 20 minutes on treadmill to equal 40? Or should I do all 40 minutes on the same machine?
3. I know that you’re not supposed to do weights and cardio during the same workout, but I’m doing it anyways. I don’t feel like I’ve done enough when I just do weights. Plus my main objective is to lose weight so I don’t want to give up the cardio on those days. So is it ok to do weights and then some cardio (maybe only 20 minutes) afterwards?
I think that’s all my questions. Thanks.

1. Do some squats and lunges. Lying hamstring curls are good too.
2. It is fine to switch machines, in fact it may be prefferable.
3. If you are going to do it anyway, why ask?

Question #1----lunges and squats (Barbell or dumbell)
Question #2---- Switching cardio exercise is really good. Keeps the heart guessing.
Question #3, 20 min afterwards is ok but keep it to low intensity, but just do 20 min pre workout.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies; you guys are always awesome about answering any questions I have.
bb1fit, what I meant with Question 3 is that I’m doing weights and cardio during the same workout right now (for the reason I stated) and I was more wondering if a shorter (20 minute) cardio after my weights would be acceptable. Sorry if I hadn’t made that clearer in my original post. :)
