Your digestive system does not shut down. To put on lean mass a pre meal bed would be a good idea, and even if you are trying to lose fat. It will simply be a different type meal. For lean mass gain as you indicate you want to do, have some casein protein(like cottage cheese) and some fats like flax oil or even walnuts or peanut butter(natural). You may add in another protein source if you like, such as spinkle some whey on your cottage cheese. Unless you have a raging metabolism, I would avoid any heavy carbs before bed.

I was wondering how long before I go to bed should I not eat anything? I currently work out at 7:00pm then have a protein shake then I like to have a bowl of oatmeal mixed with cottage cheese at baout 8:30pm then dont eat for the rest of the night. I go to bed around 10:30.

lots of protein and good fats with low carbs as BB1 said are the key for lean muscle gains.

i dont know about oats, i think it is maybe too many carbs... it depends on how much you eat.

maybe an hour before going bed, no more would be a good idea to have your pre bed. personaly, while bulking, i ate it 15 min before. i slept so well
why dont you give it a try. change the hour of your pre bed meal for week to week and see what works for you.

That's really what it's all about. Whatever works for YOU best will do you best and it might not for others. Everyone is different. We aren't exactly the same. I just wish I had a raging metabolism

all whole foods... chicken/tuna/....

the reason why people loves cottage cheese before bed is because of its taste with PB.
i would rather eat cottage cheese milk and PB then tuna and veggies.
