I just signed up and created my workout, and I noticed that every single workout day, it says I should do 25 mins of cardio. My question: Is this what I want to do because I was talking to one of the trainers at my gym and he said something to the effect that I should do cardio 2 or 3 times a week because when Im doing cardio its possible that I could be burning the muscles that I worked so hard for, for energy. So, should i REALLY be doing 25 mins of running or jogging after every workout? I'm looking to bulk up, but also lower my body fat percentage. Thanks :)

There is the risk that you will burn some of your muscle doing cardio every day. You will lessen the risk by splitting up your workouts so that you do weights early on and cardio later in the day. If this is not possible, it may be wise to cut back to 3 times a week.

It depends on what your priorities are. If bulking is the most important thing then cut back the cardio. If losing fat is the most important thing, then you may have to accept a slower rate of bulking, and continue it 5 times a week.

There is different opinions on this, but I believe that by keeping my heart rate within a certain percentage rather than pushing it beyond my range and working it up as my abilities increase, I am at less risk of using up those nice muscles. I alternate high intensity with a lower workout every other day. Here are some sites that discuss this and you will find much more here on Search fitBuddy at the bottom of each page from our pro's!

Purely to bulk up...you should stop all cardio...and focus on weight training and diet....that said...

it's not a bad idea to do cardio AFTER your weight training...however, keep the intensity light after your workouts, and on days that you're not lifting...try doing sprints...100 meters...as fast as possible, rest 30-120 seconds, and do another, repeated overall 10 times...this will focus more on explosive aspects of running and still have beneficial cardio aspects....also try to eat more protein...1-1.2g per bodyweight with plenty of complex carbs and also take omega 3 fat fish oils(capsules or liquid...or eat salmon and other fish high in it)...(fish oil has been shown to slow down the break down of muscle)

30 min of cardio a day is general recommendation for overall population....however, keep cardio to no more than 3-4 days a week, and on days that u lift, keep intensity light and short...i would do like 10 minutes....just for a cool down... on days off from lifting , your intensity is high but workouts are short (try to be done in 15 minutes or under...or as fast as you can....you progress by running 100 faster or resting less period...eventually you can try to sprint 100s with no rest, back and forth...).....

i tend to do weight training then do some rowing as i find that rowing hits the muscles quite hard unlike running which only does leg muscles rowing uses all muscles just about just like swimming. I like doing inline skating too. As this i find helps you tone up

When the rowing is properly done it involves most of the major muscle groups in your body.
The rowing stroke is made up of 65% to 75% leg work and 25-35% arm work. Without question, it is a great cardio exercise.
