My husband applied for this new job, and was "hired" on the 16th of december. He got his packet with all the rules, non compete agreement, w-4, i-9, direct deposit forms and all that jazz. He filled out a background check on the 16th, and took the other paperwork home with him to fill out and bring back on his first day of work, which was supposed to be the 27th.
On the 22nd of december his new boss called him and told him that he had accidentally given my husband the wrong background check paperwork to fill out, and faxed over the correct stuff to my office. That night my hubs filled it out and I faxed it to his bosses office the next day.
My hubs last day of work with my company was the 23rd. He didn't work all last week, because his new boss hasn't gotten the pprwrk back yet. The background check company called my office to verify employment on wednesday the 29th, and as of today, still nothing into his boss's office.
Is he getting strung along, or do backgrpund checks usually take about a week, and with the holidays even a little longer? Should he start looking for another job, even though his new boss tells him that the pprwrk is going to be in any day, and that he is calling corporate today to find out whats taking so long??
Just need some insight. Thx :)

Nothing happens right during the Christmas-New Year holiday. I want to skip the whole thing next year. Humbug.
-------------- Sometimes I lie awake at night and wonder where have I gone wrong? Then I hear a voice say this is gonna take longer than one night.

It really varies. My husband graduated from college last year and applied to several police departments in several different states. His results came in anywhere from a week to 6 weeks later. But police departments do their own background checks, there is no other company involved. I wouldn't worry about it yet.

Yes, background checks do take a while...especially if they are intensive!

Just got the call from his boss saying he starts work on Thursday. Apparently he had smeared his birthdate on the form(we used pen) and they had to send to the DMV to verify his bd, and they had to wait for that before they could clear him. I am just relieved that he starts on Thursday. The next 2 weeks will be tight, but we can make it!

You're telling me! I had seriously been holding my breath just waiting to hear something. This is like, the absolute best job he has ever had the opportunity for, and we will actually have heath insurance for the first time in almost 2 years. I am sooooo happily relieved!
