hey everyone. I used to frequent these boards a ton until about 6 months ago, not that i was ever a heavy poster, but FT was a pretty big part of my life. Anyway, last summer I stopped visiting because of a lack of internet at my house away from college. Once back I made a very breif comeback to this site, and as I planned on visiting regularly again, I was all of the sudden stricken with a horrible shoulder injury during lifting. My sternght was going up great. i had my bench up way higher than ever before, but I think this is the reason i hurt my shoulder. I was doing my sets at 350, when which turned out to be more than my ligaments could handle, so after numerous doctor visits, I had a cortisone shot today and found out i have an arthritic shoulder and quite a bit of cartilige wear along with two strained ligs. The doctor told me that the cortisone would take away the pain, but any pressing movements would continue to destroy my shoulder and that i should probably never do them again. This may be the most tragic news ive ever recieved in my life, since bodybuilding was my most important thing for the past 4 or 5 years. I'm trying to decide now if i want to risk it and keep going, or maybe continue to bodybuild, but never go heavier than 15 reps or so, or if i should just change my focus and worry about cardio and diet and try to be lean and healthy...I am at a crossroads in my physical fitness life, and just wanted to share it with the people form whom I have stolen tons of useful advice. Anyway, good to browse the boards again. I'm gonna try to be around again now, so talk to you all soon!

Get another opinion. I've recovered from shoulder surgery and am srtonger there than ever now.
-------------- Sometimes I lie awake at night and wonder where have I gone wrong? Then I hear a voice say this is gonna take longer than one night.

thats probably a good idea charlie, i asked the doctor about the possibility of surgery, and she kinda ducked the question.

I'd reiterate what charlie said - I don't know your doctor, but unless your doc is a shoulder specialist, it's worthwhile getting a second opinion, considering the impact this may have on your life.

Not only that but is she qualified to talk about this type of lifting injury? Most docs im my experience have no clue about this life and our world...they get most if not all their info from 20/20 etc...just my thought go see a sports doc...

I'm sorry to hear of your news, things like that can definately bring a person down, but I agree with the above posts, a second opinion is always good, a good sports doctor may do the trick, too, as they are well-versed in these types of injuries. So don't let it get to you, with todays vast alternatives, there seems to be always something that can be done to either eliminate or aleviate (sp?). Hang in there and it is good to have you back at FT! Don't be a stranger!

Thanks for the advise guys, I have utilized the advise and am already on my way to getting another opinion or two or three if needed. At 21 years old, i am too young to never lift again, so ill try to find something that enables me to do so...thanks again all
