I am not sure how long you have been working out or what your routine is - weights, cardio, both? But often you will see your weight stay the same or even rise on the scales due to an increase in muscle mass, which weighs more than fat. And not that the monthly would stop you from losing weight, but you may be feeling the bloat and seeing the extra fluids registering on the scale. Don't get to into the scale thing, it is a tool but an evil one that can throw one into giving up, give yourself another week and see how you feel in your clothes and if you have to weigh yourself, wait until then. You need to EXCEED your normal calories by 3500 to gain a pound of fat and you will need to DECREASE your calories (whether it be through exercise, diet or both) by 3500 to see a one pound loss. Don't get discouraged, it sounds like you are trying hard, you must give your body time.-------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL ***When you are up to your ears in trouble, try using the part that is not submerged. ***The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan. Hey eagle, I know that when my period is due I get bloated and feel a lot heavier. As veda says don't get hooked on the scale. I've been working out since february 04 and the scale says I've only lost 6lbs, but I've actually dropped a total of 13".
If your clothes aren't getting tighter, then DON'T SWEAT IT!! Just keep up the good work and enjoy feeling healthy kea lani -------------- It\'s been one of those days - ALL WEEK |

Hi there-
Have you been watching your food intake. It may also take a while to loose weight if you are just getting started. |

hey, megan i guess me and u are in the same boat, i'm 20 , and i have the same goal as you. i'm around 163, and what i've been doing so far has gotten me down 11 pounds in a month. I just do cardio 3 times a week and resistence training 2 times a week. i also watch what i eat, you know cut out the junk, all that sugary stuff that can really hinder u. just try to eat cleaner, and pick up a training program and you'll notice a change!

remember to reduce calories....very slowly...50-100 calories at a time....every few weeks...so your body gets accustomed to the lower caloric intake...otherwise it might assume it's in starvation mode and slow down your metabolism which will make losing weight more difficult...
Focus on getting most of your calories from proteins(lean meats, nuts, soy, beans) as well as complex carbs(yams, sweet potatoes, brown rice, lentil) whcih keep you satiated longer...and eat small portions of healthy fats....avacadoes, nuts, virgin olive oil(with salad),etc... also remember water weight fluctuates quite a bit ....I am a male and I can get swings of close to 10lb some weeks when I drink a lot of water...I can imagine that women experience this and then some....especially during a period...so just keep eating and exercing right and you'll overcome this.... 1 gallon of water is about 8 lb last time i checked...

megan you'll need to eat more healthily....eliminate all the junk foods....ie any sodas, chips, crackers, fried foods, chips, pizza, and the like....
drink plenty of of water...aim for at least half a gallon a day... start doing aerobics....wallking, jogging, running, elliptical machine, rowing machine....whatever is best for you....focus on getting your heart rate in the 65-70% range of your max...and do this for 30-45 minutes 3 days a week... (220-age)*0.65=approx target heart rate also start doing resistance training at least twice a week... look through freetrainers programs they should have good selection....gl

I always get 1-4lbs heavier just before my period. It's just water so no need to worry. Try to continue your training as usual and drink a lot more water.-------------- - Nina :o) Les Victoires éternelles sont celles du coeur. www.nme-pro.com |
