Okay I started doing the home training, I only have 2.5 lb. ankle & wrist weights so I figured I would start with them, due to the fact that I have almost no muscle and I am very overweight (222 lbs. at 5'4") if I went any higher I would have probably hurt myself. I am in my second week and it is getting much easier to do the routine. I do either power walking, Tae Bo Basic tape or ride my exercise bike for cardio in between the weight training. My question is should I step up the weights and to what weight. I was going to go buy some 5lb dumbbells to use, when should I start them. Also should I do the cardio on my rest days?

Add more weights when it gets too easy with the others. It's a lot of trial and error. I would suggest getting the five pound dumbells too. Don't go too heavy too quickly as this may make you think you're not getting any stronger.

It is suggested to do cardio on rest days, or separate the weights from the cardio by about six hours or so.

I like doing cardio on non weight training days. If the routine is getting easier then yes you should raise the weight going from 2.5 to 5lbs is a good increase and should not cause injury....just keep at it. And remember that more and more studies are proving that weight training is just as or more effective than cardio in losing body fat... good luck.

Exercise bands are another great, versatil, at-home option, you can do a lot with them.
also - add in body-weight exercises, push-ups, squats. There is an at-home program in the fitness resources section.

Keep it up - it is getting easier!!! Pat yourself on the back and keep going!
