Please don't get mad at me y'all. I know this is a stupid and incredibly vague question, and I'm sure it's been asked before, but I'm just trying to get a GENERAL idea of the average time for results. I am 33 years old and about 20 lbs overweight. I have a medium build by nature. Assuming I strickly follow ft's diet and exercise plan for lean muscle with progressive gains, how long would it take me to look like, say, those guys on the Bowflex infomercials? :0) I understand there's a HUGE variance in personal results, but can anyone give me SOME kind of an idea??? I don't even know if it's 1 year or 10 years! Can someone at least say "between 2 and 5 years" or something like that so I can get SOME kind of an idea? Or is this just an impossible question to answer? |

Well like you said it differs from person to person. Diet exercise play a huge role, as well as your genes...do you loose/gain weight easily? do you gain muscle easily or not. I would say if this is the first time you really have tired to workout, you most liekly see great results for the first year (depending on the above conditions). After that they slow down a little. But overall with good decidation and such most likly in 2 years you should be there.-------------- Life comes by only once....Live it to the fullest! |

Well, all I can tell you is what my experience has been. It took me eleven months to get from my before pic to my after pic. In about another year, I hope to look very simalar to those on the bow flex ads. But I must say, it has taken an incredible about of work and research to get to where I am today. Results like those in fitness ads are not easy and they do take time. Patience is the key. Good luck dude! -------------- Anything can be done |

Damn dsarco! Your before and after pics are amazing. Not bad for 11 months. I hope I do half as well. So how did you lose 45 lbs in 2 1/2 months??? |

Bretto, I'm 29, female, also medium build, had about twenty pounds to lose six months ago. I decided if I was going to do it I was going to do it right so I did a lot of research and bit the bullet. My goal was to lose ten but once I started weight training I melted off about 20 and had to work just to slow it down once I got to what I considered a healthy weight. It took a couple of months to lose the weight but since I was working out in the meantime, when it did come off, I had visible muscles all over. I don't look like a fitness professional or anything, but I did go from looking sort of *ahem* soft and maternal to fairly lean and athletic in well under six months (went from a size 8/10 to a 0/2). It was a dramatic enough change I kept sneaking peeks at my legs and biceps (and real abs!) because I couldn't believe they were mine. LOL It was quite a shock for my hb, too. So I think it's possible to see dramatic change in less than six months - now as far as looking like someone in an infomercial - I'll have to get back to you on that one in a decade or so. LOL Also really impressed by Dsarco's before and after pics; the hard work really shows! |

Since you are actually overweight, you should see some results rather quickly. It is easier to see the results when you have more fat to burn. I lost the 1st 20 lbs rather quickly and the rest of my weight has taken some time to get rid of. I would say that I lost the 20 lbs over overweight loss in about 8 weeks. The other 10 I have lost has been over the past 2 months or so. But remember if you are lifting heavy, you will replace fat with muscle and may actually take longer to lose pounds, but the fat will melt away.-------------- Lisa |

I think that the best way is to be patient with yourself... sure that everybody wants to looklike those BowFleX ads...but you still need to respect yourself... The most important think that I found since I began weight training (1 year ago) was that you need to enjoy life and do not go at the gym as something that you MUST do but something that you have fun to do... You still need to think that this is a hobby (for me) but this hobby is really specific from all other hobbies! Lift heavy, respect your diet (as FT nutrition is showing..) , have fun, have goals & I think that you'll be what you want to be... -------------- I need to Grow! So, be Psycho! |

I always thought that lifting weights and doing ab exercises would be all I need to lose the 20lbs I want to shed. I'm quickly discovering that aerobic (cardio) exercises are even more important for weight loss. I just find it so much harder to find the dicipline to do cardio than to lift weights. I guess it's a habit that must be formed, just like anything else. I need to get my lazy ass on the treadmill! :0) |

Yes, cardio is very important for losing weight. Muscle helps in the fat loss progress, because it helps to burn the excess fat. Combine cardio and weight training for the best results.-------------- Lisa |
