I was reading my mens fitness on the "thrown" and came across a cell tech add...........you know the 10page long ones....anyways it posted Johnnie Jacksons back workout

pull ups 3x15 reps 45...90...135(weight hanging from his wasit)

5 sets of deadlifts.......worked up to 700lbs for 10 reps

bentover rows he worked up to 405lbs for 20reps

blah blah blah

my question is.......700lbs for 10 reps? I thought the world deadlift record was just under 900lbs like 860 somthing? I mean surly if he can rep that much weight.....why would he not hold a new record?

ronnie coleman only does 800 for a set of 2?

I know its about bodybuilding I just find it odd

I have no idea about this ad, but I have noted numerous BS articles and ads in the Mens Health and such magazines.

Andrew I love reading these articles on the throne as well....but

Johnny Jackson lifted 820 deadlift with no straps at Arnold Classic I believe...so 700 for 10 sounds right....plus he uses straps for them so..

World Record officially is 933 and is tied between two men who are going strong against each other....they differ by like fraction of a pound...

Unofficially at strongman competition a guy lifted 975....it was 1-2 years ago...

His backworkouts are insane in both poundages and volume....I forget he did pull ups with 20 reps using his own body weight, then 20 more using +45, 2-45s, and 3-45s strapped to him...he weighs 250 in offseason so for his last set 385 for 20 reps? ...

I have actually found Mens Fitness to be pretty good. I really miss Muscle Media. I do agree with the number of BS Ads

I have been reading Flex for 10 years. Recently Joe Weider sold his company to a larger publishing firm. Since then the amout of those stupid ( and these are the adds that cause many to come here and write "is this any good" posts) adds so many so that I am thinking of canceling my subscription. I think they are totaly misleading and are just filler. Maybe we should make a FT mag for the real people.

I should have worded my post differently. Mens Health is pretty good, and I've even bought a pretty good book from them. But a lot of magazines out there have thrown out some bs myths about dieting and some outrageous claims at times.

I think this is because a lot of articles in the magazines aren't necessarily written by guys that REALLY know their stuff.

i think it's just the flex, muscle and fitness, mens fitness, ie all the mags owned by same company....Mens Health is not owned by the same company......there are other hardcore magazines but they are made by competitors of flex and they are more of same except unline flex they openly talk about steroids and so forth...only seen them in Barns and Noble...

i have read Flex for 2-3 years now and other magazines for 5 years.....my take on it is to get as much 'good' info out of them as possible...look at it this way they need money to publish their magazines......I forget there was a magazine which said they will only have ads from good sources and will not put any 'misleading or ads they think are false'...well they were bankrupt in a month or two....so there that went....this is the real world guys....you have some idealistic views but this is not a utopia

I try to get routines, stay tuned for the lastest non-steroidal supplements, and especially nutritional information....I realize I will never do the volume or poundages any time soon...because I don't ahve the steroids to help me recover as quickly.....this is why I workout all bodyparts in 2 week span....I adapt to everything I read to fit me....people who fall for these ads and I have fallen for a few myself have just themselves to blame....time to stop being ignorant and educate oneself about things like that....
