BigdavidI have the same situation as you. You should always do cardio on an empty stomach. you can do it like i do, in the morning before breakfast, 2-3 times a week. But i myself, need some help planning cardio for maximum fat loss without any damage or loss of muscle mass. With all the talk about too much cardio decreasing mass, im starting to get scared of the running track~.... and a question, wouldnt this make sence, as long as there is fat in your body, your cardio system will not have to tap into muscle cell supply? But asides from that, i too need some help planning cardio along with my mass programs. any help guys? thnx |

Weight training and cardio are 2 different animals. If you are trying to gain mass, NEVER do cardio immediately following your weight training, and especially before. If you are trying to gain muscle mass, your weights should be your 1st priority. If you rob yourself of glycogen doing cardio first, how will you ever handle heavy weights? Schedule your cardio for 5-8 hours later. Unless you are preparing for a contest, then the rules have to be bent some. |

Now I'm totally confused. I work out in the evening after work. I do light cardio to warm up. I was planning to start doing higher intensity, 20-30 minute cardio 3 times a week just before working out. So what now? I have to squeeze my high intensity cardio(jogging or whatever) in the morning before work, then just my warm-up in the evening before lifting? |

Warm up for 5-10 mins before weight training, do 20-30 mins of cardio after (if you want to loose fat. A good idea though is to take some glutamine straight after the weight training and before cardio!) or do cardio on another day or later/earlier from weight training.Bretto how can you weight train after HIIT? No more energy for the weights..... Bigdavid, cardio is important for your body and heart, but we don't know anything about you or your goals. philia2about a year ago i use to do 10 min warm up and 20min cardio after .. problem was i lost too much weight.. i don't want to lose a lot of weight id like to stay above 200lbs ,im 207lbs now..but yet i want to be also fit.. i started doing a little cardio now...i see that i need it ,i regret letting go completely .. i don't warm up now ,what i do is stretch for good 10 minutes ,,,weight training, then 15 to 20mins cardio . i do take glutamine ,but after all my workout . i think is a good idea to take it right after weight training.. thanks ,, |

Hmmm nooooo good to stretch a cold muscle...... What you can do is to warm up using a very light weight and do 15-20 repetitions. Save the stretching for in between the sets or after the work out.Limit cardio to 2-3 times a week AND be sure of taking your protein shake before (you don't want to loose weight right, well then give the muscles all the needed protein etc to make sure of them not melting away....) You'll be okey big man (o; -------------- - Nina :o) Les Victoires éternelles sont celles du coeur. |

But they also say it's good to give yourself one complete rest day where you do no activity. |
