Hello all, I just found this excellent site yesterday, for once a fitness site I will be coming back to everyday. Im 21yrs old, 5'11 and 197lbs. I've been lifting ever since I was 14 or so and havent gained a huge increase, mainly due to being too skinny and not being able to put on any weight. Recently though I've put on bout 20lbs hoping it would be easy to turn the fat into muscle. I've set up a program, but I wanted to know coming from you guys is it easier to turn fat into pure muscle or to burn the fat off while just getting toned? Thanks guys.

welcome to FT
first of all, you can't turn fat into muscle, no can do
Muscles come from hard work in the gym and a good solid diet.
have a read through this site, plenty of info here
good luck

I know muscles come from hard work, im not a small guy, I put on weight inorder to gain more muscle because I wasnt getting past a certain point because I had very little body fat. I was 170lbs with 8% body fat so that was pretty good, but I stayed at that weight for like over a year. I was told to put on some weight (by trainer at time)inorder to see a rapid muscle increase. I have seen an increase in strength since (not huge however), but I wanted a quick way to burn off excess fat. I know for a fact weight training burns more calories, but I've also heard its easier to burn calories from cardio since it isnt so stressful on your body.
