What do you mean my Low fat, and High Volume? as in a high Volume of food?

If you want to lose weight, you have to have a Caloric Deficit, end of story. So by reducing your Calories that come from Fat, you can eat foods that are more filling, and have less Calories. It works, as long as you are still eating less calories than you are burning.

Just look at say a bag of chips, its full of calories, and fats, but not really that filling. Now eat a Can of Tuna, and a cup of brown rice, plus Veggies. Probably close to the same calories, you get nutrients, and you won't feel hungry for 2hrs or more, at which time, its time to refuel yourself anyways.

Has anyone had any experience with this kind of eating? Has anyone lost weight eating this way?

Sure. I meant eating high volumes of food that are low fat. If I ate all low or no fat foods day after day, but a lot of food and didn't worry about the calories, could I still lose weight? Hope I explained that good enough.

No you would not lose weight eating this way. There are a lot of foods that are low in fat but are high in sugar and other empty calories. You have to keep count of calories to lose weight. It is the excess of calories that are in fat that make you gain, not necessarily the fat itself. Your body needs fat. Yes there is fat that is unhealthy (saturated and trans) but you need fat in moderation. So if you eat foods that are low are fat free and not keeping count of calories then you will still have an excess of calories that you do not burn and this will be stored as fat in the body. Hope this makes sense and helps you.

If you eat a high amount of food that is low in fat, yet do not create a caloric defecit I dont think it would be possible to lose weight. Anybody?

hec, you would be correct. dani, i can get 2300 calories in and not go over 30g fat. you just have to make the right food choices. if you're eating less fat you're going to have to make up for the lost calories that keep your metabolism going somewhere else. there are 9-10 calories per gram of fat, and 4 calories per gram of protein and carbohydrates. the trick is eating enough lean protein and clean carbs without wasting your intake on empty calories.

just make sure you're eating enough to fuel your body but simultaneously create a caloric deficit and you'll lose weight.

I agree. All the low fat food in the world isn't going to help Dani. Especially since most often they are filled with empty calories and if you aren't active enough to burn those and then some...well, you may not gain, but you certainly won't loose either.

No offense, but can I ask why you are asking this question? As long as you have been a member on the boards, I would have thought that you would know this by now.

What type of diet are you currently following and where did you get it?

I don't mean to be presumptuous, but are you getting frustrated and looking for an easy out/alternative or is this your way of asking for some motivation?

No offense taken. I just read that weird bald chick's book, Susan Powter and was wondering...

The trouble I am having with my diet is my brain keeps telling me to stay away from fat. All fat. I am a diet retard as you can tell from my picture. (you can also tell I don't match my undies with my bra either.)

Yes, I am getting frustrated and easy outs are tempting, but I know they don't work and I don't expect to get a magical motivation experience here, just knowledge.

I ate high volume low fat with no calorie restrictions in my early 20's while working out. My weight didn't go down, but I did look good and tone. That is why I was wondering.

Ok, I can see where you are coming from. Brain lock is very common when trying to accept and utilize something that by your very nature, you don't have an easy time doing.

Why don't you try this: instead of reading and worring about which way is best....sit down and compose a diet by the guidelines you have learned here. Put it on paper, think it through...even post it to double check if you would like.

And then commit.

Commit to what you have written down and stick to it for six weeks and then re-evaluate accordingly. If it's not working, then try sitting down and doing it again.

Make sense to you?

I got that problem too Dani, brain telling thinks.
I found that we all get thru this state if i may say, and it is only matter of "brain maturation".

what worked for me was this:
i was unhappy because i didn´t see results. There for, i got frustrated. so i stopped and sais to myself: it looks like what i am doing doesn´t work (obviously), let´s try something new that is against all i thought it was correct. i this was adding fats to my diet.

SO i would recommend you, and as DFLY says, to put fats into your diet and see what happends.
go gradually and be patient


before i was eating like 15f fo fat daily. i am eating now 80g of fat daily, all from nuts

There is something to be said for eating high volume, low calorie foods like fibrous vegetables, because you can eat more of them without going over your caloric allowance and therefore diet without feeling deprived.

Good fats will ehlp you burn fat - when dieting for competition it was common for me to have a TSBP of fat (flaxseed oil) in my shakes up to four times a day. And my bodyfat was dropping off.
i am not recommending that high of an allowance for you, your body needs to learn to use fat as a fuel before you do that, for now try to create a 200 calorie deficit through food and a 300 calorie deficit through exercise and you should see a pound or more weight los each week.
