Hi, I've been a fly on the wall for some time now with FT message boards. The info is awesome, and sometimes quite entertaining(expecially enjoyed the landscaping thread-LOL). Over the past 2 years I've managed to drop 30lbs (180 to 150), but it has been the last year, when I started weight training, that people really started to notice (body fat went from 31% to 23%). I've exercised all my life (ran 2 half marathons, done lots of aerobics), but wt training is what's making all of the difference! I wt train 2X / week (1hr 1X upper, 1X lower) and do cardio 4X / wk(run, spinning class, elliptical etc). I also take Pilates classes 2X/week-amazing for the core! Now if I could just loose that pesky last 10lbs! BTW, I'm 41 with a hubby and 2 daughters, 11 and 14. :)

Welcome to the bright side! Cogratulations on the body change and hope you can post more often.
The last 10 are the hardest. Sometimes a change in an exercise or cardio may help.

Thx for the welcome. I have introduced new exercise, namely spinning classes. It does seem to help, but I think diet may be the final issue. I am currently taking in about 1200-1300 calories a day ( yesterday: 200 carb / 25 fat / 85 protien) I know FT recommends higher calorie etc., but I just can't imagine that an increase if food will help me loose wieght! I know, I know, I've read all the posts, but is 1200-1300 really too low??? I probably am making up the extra calories on the weekends (Guiness and chicken wings are my weekness!!)

1800 cal would be minimum for you. At your present intake your metabolisim is holding on to what it has.
Also try dropping the fatto around 20 and make it up with protein.

I understand the theory behind increasing the calories, but it is difficult to increase protien without increasing the fat. I'm keeping to sources like cottage cheese, tuna, chicken, shrimp and fish and have a high protien shake after workouts and added a protien bar to try and increase calories (bars a bit high in fat as well!). I've just started to carefully track what I'm eating, so I'll try to find some new protien sources. I could probably eat a higher volume of tuna or chicken at lunch. We'll see how it goes. Thanks again for the feedback!

Welcome fly....glad to have you. It is relatively easy to find lean proteins.
