hey sup everybody,
I just went to see a nutritionist today, and she said that I've been eating way too much protein and not enough carbs and fruit, so I'm going to change that, but with the training I have done in the past 6 months I have lost 22lbs. and I was at 20% body fat, now I have lost 13% body fat and am at 7% total body fat. Is that nuts or what? I didnt even think that was possible to lose that much in such a short period of time, I wasn't even trying to lose that much. Anyhow, at 7% I still can't even see my stomach muslces that well and I still seem to have a gut and poor muscle definition all around, I haven't been training for that, but I would think i would see them since I'm at a real low body fat total , wouldnt I ?? I only them 2-3 times a week. |

I think that is screwy..most bodybuilders carry 1-4% when they compete so for you to have just 7 and not see anything is odd. Are you sure that 22lbs was mostly fat and not muscle also I would get a another BF test done...-------------- If you can itch your nose after arm day...do another set! 7707mutt@freetrainers.com |

why do you need a 6 apck? for sports?-------------- My drinking squad, has a cheerleading problem!! |

most bodybuilders compete at 3-5%....I am at 6-7% and my abs are very strong however, I could only see outlines , and almost even less definition of bottom 4...it depends how you carry your bodyfat....I carry almost all of it around my midsection...maybe you do also...but you don't see them at all? i am guessing you're more like 8-10%...most people see outlines of abs at around 9-10%...
Andrew got a point...for sports it's a good idea to be around 8-10%....your performance will suffer as you get down in bf.... And I would get another BF test done...by another person...this seems very odd...where did you get tested? some of the people at gyms...never workout...and pass a gym certification over a week...so they know barely anything...24hrs for 1...so go see some1 qualified...and if you can afford go get water displancement or another more accurate fat measurements...gl | |

dunno if it really matters.....but a good tan helps too........however to play football you dont' need a chiesled mid section......just strong ones. I suggest you rethink your goals.......athetics and sports training don't go hand in hand at all.-------------- My drinking squad, has a cheerleading problem!! |

I'd have to ask you the same question as andrew. In your profile, it says you want to be able to run people down but your trying to lose weight. Maybe this is the wrong forum to answer questions about bodyfat, because most of the strong lifters at meets aren't "cut". -------------- Only a man who knows what it is like to be defeated can reach down to the bottom of his soul and come up with the extra ounce of power it takes to win when the match is even. steve |

gowar I also think you have a mischaracterization of strength/power athletes as well as your objectives and ways of achieving them ...or what it takes to 'run people down'.....if you're losing weight to become faster then it's not a great idea.....you can be 300lb and still have 40 inch vertical or under 5sec 40....it depends how strong you are....many olympic lifters are extremely explosive and fast...so your goal should be to become very strong while maintaining a fairly lean body but not chiseled per se...I'd say a bf of 8-15% is fine for sports...your objective should be to learn olympic lifting and to progress in them...as your numbers increase you'll also become faster/quicker but most importantly powerful....you can also train for speed/explosiveness with plyometric training...

You can eat too much protein. An excessive amount causes problems with your kidneys.-------------- I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is the moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle-victorious. --Vince Lombardi "Decide what you want, decide what you are willing to exchange for it. I must apologize for the previous post, and Howdiekat, thank you for calling me out on it. I had been told that excessive protein can cause kidney problems, and I guess I just never questioned it. But now that I've looked around and read some articles, it seems that I was a bit off on that. It appears that an average person with no kidney problems wouldn't be affected really (besides your average digestion problems), but it seems that excessive amounts of protein can put a strain on the body's ability to deal with waste products, but ESPECIALLY for people that already have kidney problems, and someone with a kidney problem should probly be the only one being careful about it. Sorry for the mistake on my part.-------------- I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is the moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle-victorious. --Vince Lombardi "Decide what you want, decide what you are willing to exchange for it. The previous info comes from a study by several US researchers led by Eric Knight at Harvard. Aside all of the research, I am one to believe that protein is very important, but because of all the talk about it, that people aren't getting enough of the other important stuff. I think a diet should be pretty balanced with lots of fresh fruits and raw vegetables. I think people have lost the concept of real healthy eating, and with all this low carb craze and obsession with protein has just made misconceptions. Don't get me wrong, protein is extremely important, this is just what I've been thinkin.-------------- I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is the moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle-victorious. --Vince Lombardi "Decide what you want, decide what you are willing to exchange for it. IN a bio class we talked about protein being broke down, and forming amouna...which is bad, but the body converts thisinto urea, to be flushed out. Which CAN put a strain on kidneys if not alot of water is drank or weak kidneys to start with.-------------- My drinking squad, has a cheerleading problem!! |

theres another reason 8 glasses isnt enough. I would think this would have to be ALOT of protein, because i know of bodybuilders getting 2.5 grams per pound of bodyweight that don't have those problems.-------------- Only a man who knows what it is like to be defeated can reach down to the bottom of his soul and come up with the extra ounce of power it takes to win when the match is even. steve |

Just because I say one thing about being slightly concerned about my seeing my abdominal muscles doesnt mean I'm obsessed or primarily focused on them looking good. I just care if their strong. My goals have been just to get bigger, faster, stronger, more mobile, agile, hostile, durable, balanaced, coordinated, powerful, and skillful. And I have been doing pretty well in those gains. 6 months ago, It's not that i wanted to lose weight, its that i wanted to lose "FAT" that I know was slowing me down. Right now I'm at 205 I squat 410, bench press 225, I have a vertical jump of 27 inches, and my 40 time has improved almost a whole second in the past year. I think I have been developing a much more powerful and highly efficient athletic performing body. I can see my abs, some what I'm just not like chiseled is what im trying to say, I just thought if you drop to that low body fat percentage they would look chiseled. The lady who tested my body fat percentage, has being testing body fat for 20 years.
