When doing overhead tricep extensions, people will tell u to keep your elbows tucked in during this movement, as opposed to letting them go out. And if u keep them tucked in, u likely wont be able to handle as much weight. So then im reading an article in muscular development, last year, and this article was the tricep routine of either Mat Duval or Krisna Dim, i forget who, and he said, " its more natural to let ur elbows flare out a little". So what should i do, should i not keep them tucked in, will i still feel the contraction? Or should i keep them tucked in?

iF YOU DO NOT keep them tucked somewhat your tris are not getting the work your shoulders and back are....keep the weight light till you can feel it...that is what I do took me a year but now I am working with 70-100lbs on them.

kev best advice is to do what works best for you....tinker with the exercise and see what works best for you...yes it's recommended to keep elbows in and I try to do that....but when I try to squeeze out a couple forced reps I flare out a bit....some of my friends can't even get their elbows in as is recommended...it's not natural for them...they still try to tuck the elbows but by my standard it's still quite a bit flared out...but that's ok...some people have limited flexibility or movement because of injuries or some other reasons...so it's best to jsut do what works best for you....yes other bigger muscles will do more work but you 'll still see decent results...

I could care less if i have to go down in weight. Im all about form. You guys really never really gave me an answer. I want to know which way is better. Which way shocks/pumps, which way builds the muscle better. And if i have to go down in weight, so be it. Who cares, eventually, once i get used to right form, ill be going up in weight in that particular excercise in not time. Because thats how it works. So which way shocks the muscle better, tucked in, or just let them out?

Let your elbows go to their natural state. The key is RESISTING the stretch on the way up.
