Has anyone in here ever wanted to try this kind of stuff? Like squat suits or a bench shirt? Just to see how they work or to see how it improves your lifts? Im thinking of getting a bench shirt and a squat suit. Just incase I wanna compete in a few years. Would anyone else try this equipment or not?

you definetely should train at least occassionally in suit if you plan to compete. Before you buy it however, check for the regulations of each federation under which you plan to compete. They have considerably different regulations at times...and the suit is fairly expensive...so do your research first...bench suit can add over 50lb on bench, and over 100 on squat/deadlift for an experienced lifter...also make sure to have powerlifting style workouts...which are quite different from normal/bodybuilding workouts in both intensity and style...gl with your aspirations

I wouldnt buy a suit or shirt "just in case i wanna compete in a few years." start to train first, and then go to your first competition before you buy anything. That way you dont waste the money for nothing, and you also get to see a little of whats out there and whats allowed. I've seen lifters go raw because there equipment doesnt meet the specs of their federation.

Personally, I compete raw, but thats cuz powerlifting isn't my primary sport and takes a backseat to my training for the 3 styles of wrestling, and because im still growing, and dont want to buy anything till I''ve settled in a weightclass. -------------- Only a man who knows what it is like to be defeated can reach down to the bottom of his soul and come up with the extra ounce of power it takes to win when the match is even. steve |

Thanks for the responses guys. I have heard that a double denim shirt can add over 100lb-200lbs on your bench. This doesnt happen as soon as you buy it you have to learn the shirts groove and how to use it. I compete raw as well but I would like to see what a shirt actually does and how to use one.

Dude you are not going to put a suit on and hit 100-200lbs over your max. It just does not work that way. Go to deepsquatter.com and look at the workouts those guys do. They train their asses off to lift that heavy even with a suit on. Some of them have taken years to get to that level. The suits wraps take a while to get use to to wear and lift in anyway. Like wrestler said I would go to a few comps to see before you buy anything.-------------- If you can itch your nose after arm day...do another set! 7707mutt@freetrainers.com |

I know i said that above that it doesnt happen the first time you wear them they take time to practice and learn the groove of the shirt. But they can add that much over your max with time and practice.

a shirt is hard to lift in........you put it on.....and bench normaly......except you have to almost pull the weight to your chest like coiling a spring.......a bench shirt takes about 10 different measurements to fit "right"..even fited right a bench shirt may only add 75 to 100lbs -------------- My drinking squad, has a cheerleading problem!! |

btw a squat suitI don't think will help you dl........thats why the dl max is fairly low......830 somthing I think compared to the squat. Because theres nothing to help you, no grip help no nothing its basicly 100% you.-------------- My drinking squad, has a cheerleading problem!! |

bigandrew you are right about deadlift suits, they are not very good. Sometimes I think they just where there squat suit or they even have groove briefs which are supposed to help.

Here are the records last time I checked...
Deadlift 933 1/3 (975 at a strongman competition) Squat 1183 Bench 900( Gene may have done more than that now already) I think suit may help with Deadlift...instead of having the weight be on your back..you're liftign the weight of the floor but your stance is similar...similar muscles used...especially for those who use a lot of hip strength...it obviously does nothign for grip... Suit might give you 100-200 on squat but not on bench...very slim chance it will get u even 100....50-75 is reasonable...my friend went from 430 to 500 at competition(in bench)..he trains mostly raw with a couple workouts devoted to suit before competitions...he does over 650 for squat in training and hit 720 in competition.....he does it for about 5 years now...so he's experienced....for a beginner it will do almost nothing...best benchers/squatters in the world rack up tremendous numbers raw as well...beginners can get crushed under the weight...so they should take as much precaution as possible when powerlifting...focusing also on core and stabilizing muscles.... | |

my apologies.. I knew iw as wrong....gene got 950 on his first attempt...and then on 3rd attempt got 1005 lb....

I guess modification to what I said is also appropriate..elite benchers can get 200-300 lb increase in their weight with suit compared to raw....but it's very very rare...I think best bench is around 800...although I find sources with numbers as low as 705...
