Hi, I'm 48/f/5'4/ 250
Im miserable and I need help setting a goal. I'm so tired and depressed, I'm afraid I'm too old to get in shape. It hurts me to walk to the mailbox. I feel like a 70 year old woman. After years of yoyo dieting I just quit fighting it after my 9 year old was born, now I don't know where to start. Can someone please help me get started on a diet plan and what sort of exersize I need to start out with?
Thanks,sandylou

Hey sandylou...
Welcome to FT... first off, I would suggest you stop smoking... I know that's hard to do, but it will likely help your all around health and well being.
Secondly, pick a fitness plan from FT. Follow it to the best of your ability and your on your way.
Third, keep an eye on your diet. It may be hard (since you are a cook) but changing your diet will help big time.
Perhaps start walking a bit each day and build it up. You'll get there... read the posts on FT and you'll get plenty of motivation!

Take a look around the sight and learn as much as you can. I would suggest starting with the FT in home program and working from there. Let us know if we can help you in any way.

sandylou - it is never too late to improve your health!
Start by making small changes to how you eat, cutting out fattier foods and drinking more water are good starting goals. Being a chef should make it interesting to you to figure out how to make your favorite foods healthier and still flavorful.
Tim is right about smoking - it tires you out, even though it feels like a lift when you light up - I know, i smoked for 12 years! I quit pretty much cold turkey (a few slips now and then, but not recently) and the difference once I got over the withdrawals and my lungs cleared out was amazing!
Start walking 10 minutes a day, keep it up and eventually you will feel like increasing the time.
Try substituting a 5 minute walk for one of your routine cigarette breaks.
Good luck! Many people here have felt awful and improved their health! You can, too!
