-eat 5-6 times a day. Make sure there is enough protein in each meal. 1-2 grams per pound of bodyweight. Take in about the same amount of carbs. You need carbs and protein to put on muscle and mass. -Don't workout the same body part more than once a week -Workout 4-5 times a week -Don't do too much cardio -Don't do more than 10 reps for each excercise -Put enough weight to not get more than 10 reps. If you can only get to 7-8 reps, then it's all good. -Do only 3-4 different excercises for each muscle -Workout with enough intensity so that you'll be sore the next day. If the muscles you worked out aren't sore, then use more weight the next time.
This is a pretty rough spweel. There is a lot of room for information here.
I workout 5 days a week, 1 hour each day and I'm always sore the next day. My legs are still sore from 3 days ago :)
I eat 6 times a day. My last meal before bed being only a protein shake. The rest of the meals have equal amounts of protein and carbs. I don't do any cardio at the moment and can still see my abs.
Just make sure to eat right, workout with lots of intensity and to fully recouperate each muscle before working it out again. If you do this, then your muscles will have no choice but to grow.

Nice post Dang.
Finally John, the very best advice for you is try to listen to your body. Feel the muscles work and give them the needed nutrition and rest.
Good luck!

A little sugar prior to your workout will give direct energy to your cells but don't overdo it. If you take to much sugar to often it will have a bad effect on your body. It can deregulate your blood sugar levels. ============ Quoting from 15lifter:

I drink some gatorade right before my workout..gives me a little boost of energy. Drink only a little bit though or else your stomach will seem bloated

Yes okey it CAN be a good idea to get a LITTLE sugar bust BEFORE weight training (especially if you haven't been eating for hours) BUT don't eat too much sugar...... Why? Because you'll create an insuline spike and if you weight train for more than around one hour you'll risk getting the NEGATIVE effect from that insuline spike as well......
Better thing is to eat some slow carbs a couple of hours BEFORE weight training and then eat a small sugar tread AFTER.

Well you'll get all happy and lots of energy!!!! lol AND your body will do everything to stock as much fat as possible and NOT to burn any extra fat.
Now look at the spike as a wave. You'll start down and then get up on the top and then very fast (depending on the quantity of sugar) way down....... Now you'll feel tired, maybe even grumpy and you'll just have another sugar craving (because your body wants to get on the top of the wave again!)
A bad cycle and that's why you got so many sugar addicts out there.....
