Rows and Smith Machine

Are upright rows and bent-over rows good to do on the smith machine? I know that my stabilizer muscles won't be used while on the 'Smitty', but the main point of using it for the above exercises is to better isolate the shoulder and back accordingly... right?

What do you guys recommend and why?

Yes, I really like them. Once you get your feet positioning correct, the nice thing about the Smith here is that it keeps you in the same plane of motion, and not much cheating allowed swinging the bar.

Vary it up, use the Smith for a while then switch to bar.
