I've searched and read posts for a few days and not found this question. Can you convert a pound of body fat to calories? For example, If I had 1 lb of excess body fat could I calculate the number of calories I would have to burn in excess of my intake to loss that pound? Here is my logic. There are 453.5924 grams in a pound. If a gram of body fat has the same caloric value (9 calories per gram) as a consumed fat calorie then a pound of body fat would have 4,082 calories. Therefore, I would need to create a 4,082 calorie deficit with diet and excercise to lose that pound.

approximately 3500 calories for 1 lb.

To lose 1lb of body fat, you need to deduct 3,500 calories. That might sound like a lot, but over a week, it amounts to 500 calories a day ....and that can easily be done by making a some changes to your diet.

It's as simple as that. Only it doesn't seem easy for most.

It is recommended to work off 300 calories through exercise and take in 200 less dietary-wise daily to create the deficit for 1 pound a week weight loss.
