I think it's sucralose that is in these slim fast low carb shakes that I drinkl. I like them beacuse they have only 6 carbs, 4 of which are fiber and 20g of protein, but I'm worried about the artificial sweeteners.

Sucralose is not utilized for energy in the body because it is not broken down like sucrose. It passes rapidly through the body virtually unchanged.

Please note that there haven't been as many studies done on the effects of sucralose as there are on equal and sweet'n low. I've read good and bad things about splenda, but I choose to use it. Honestly if you are only having a little each day you should be fine. A bunch of the studies done with artificial sweetners are done on the assumption that one consumes a high amount per day. Like way more than 3 slimfasts worth. Just be aware of what you're eating which it sounds like you are.

Thanks for the link, Lex. I checked it out and now I must say the following:
The FDA members must be being paid for nothing. Sucralose aside, the fact that they allow aspartame, hydrogenated oils etc. to be marketed is ludacris. How is it that soup mix has hydrogenated oil in it? Or cereal? Or peanut butter??? Peanut butter has it's own oil why is it being hydrogenated?!?! And why is everything else on the f'in market poisonous too? Why are these stupid artificial sweeteners that you would think would be good for cutting fat, bad for the rest of your health? Who the hell is in charge of this and when are they going to pull there head from their ass to see what's going on here?
On a side note, I was gonna use the low carb slim fast shakes as a supplement during my cutting phase for about 2 months, but now I'm a little nervous about it. You guys recommend it?

froshman, you are so right! If I didn't know better, I would think there was some sort of hidden government that is trying to use hydrogenated oils as population control, I mean, comeon, this stuff sits within your body, when I think of how much of the food out there contains it, it makes me sick!

low carb anything is usually full of chemicals that you don't want in your body. capitalism has found a way to make watching sugar and carbs even more detrimental to your health. In my opinion most low carb stuff makes overeating of poor foods a bigger problem. It doesnt teach you to stop eating a whole box of cookies every night, it just teaches you that the real stuff tastes better and it helps cement your habits so that you eventually go back to the real stuff only in the meantime your putting stuff into your system that could or could not be bad for your body.
veda- I am more irritated with advertising and big business than I am with the FDA. If you think conspiracy is in the air, check with the pharmaceutical companies who have to have a fresh supply of people in bad health to replace the ones that die so that they can earn a living.

money money money ladies and gentlemen. If it is cheaper nobody cares what they put in our food as long as it is edible they don't really care about our health or nutrition.
