What about fast foods for dinners? I looked up all the nutrition information for all the fast food chains here and printed them out. I found a bunch of things I could have that were under 15g of fat, like the Hot BBQ sandwich at KFC, the Chicken Nacho Cheese Gordita at Taco Bell, the Chicken Whopper at BK, or the Junior Roast Beef at Arbys. Is this ok or should I maybe boil some rice too or something?

don't just look at fat grams, look at what kind of fat it is, how many calories it has, and how much sugar is in it. you'd be surprised at the sugar content of fast food, and chances are all of those things have trans fats, not to mention a high sodium content.
of all the things you mentioned, the chicken whopper is about the best alternative, but get it without any sauce. ideally, instead of fast food i would eat at home as much as you can. if you know you're going to be on the run, make your food earlier in the day and take it with you. don't sacrifice health for convenience. -------------- if you get me started on quentin tarantino films, chances are you won't be able to shut me up. excuses are really good for making you fat. margarine is a liar who announces, "i am butter!" |

It is also cheaper to make your own food.
Salad greens in a tupperware container, tuna in a pouch and a samll bottle of vinagrette That is fast food! Apples are fast food! Any chopped veggies and pre-cooked chicken breasts are fast food. Save the fast food for a once-a-week cheat meal if you really have to have it. -------------- Vision without action is a daydream, Action without vision is a nightmare. -- Japanese Proverb -- |

Is there a Panera Bread near you?
I find this to be a great place when I feel like grabbing a quick bite out (it also happens to be the only fast food place I at which I will eat!). They have a garden vegetable soup that is yummy! I get it in the sourdough bread bowl. It's low in calories and fat and great on the protein, but not too good on the sodium intake; so, plenty of fluids are recommended. It's not too shabby for a food on the go. I know sometimes I just feel like going out instead of packing my own meal or staying in. For me, this is a great alternative; Oh, plus, I LOVE sourdough bread!!! ;-D Garden Vegetable Soup Serving Size: 8 oz Sodium: 860mg Calories: 90 Total Carbohydrate: 17g Total Fat: 0.5g Dietary Fiber: 2g Saturated Fat: 0g Sugars: 4g Cholesterol: 0mg Protein: 4g Sourdough bread bowl: Serving Size: 8 oz Sodium: 1090mg Calories: 500 Total Carbohydrate: 102g Total Fat: 1.5g Dietary Fiber: 4g Saturated Fat: 0g Sugars: 2g Cholesterol: 0mg Protein: 20g ~b |

Those trans fats are the worst, it seems if I mention it to most people they have absolutely no clue what they are and are definately clueless to what they do! I'm glad I found FT as this is one thing I, myself, was uninformed about!-------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL ***When you are up to your ears in trouble, try using the part that is not submerged. ***The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan. Garden Veggie Sandwich. 10oz. Sounds healthy right?
Calories: 570 Total Fat: 23g Sodium: 1490mg !!!! How does a veggie sandwich only manage 5 grams of fiber? Dietary Fiber: 5g It gets worse. Much worse. Some of the ingredients include: partially hydrogenated palm kernal oil modified food starch natamycin And this 'veggie' sandwich has partially hydrogentated oil?? Even oreos and pringles have reomved that poison! I would definitely add one of the worst offenders- msg; it is here, hidden under disguised names, sodium caseinate, spices (ha, why don't they say, which spices?- you get why), natural flavoring; also: potassium sorbate also: corn starch, wihich is very likely is GM also: milk of course is laden with rBGH Take a look at their entire menu: http://www.panera.com/menu_sandwiches.aspx - then avoid. A veggie sandwich should not have close to 100 ingredients...and 5 grams of fiber. Garden Veggie Serving Size: 10.65 oz Sodium: 1490mg Calories: 570 Total Carbohydrate: 74g Total Fat: 23g Dietary Fiber: 5g Saturated Fat: 7g Sugars: 6g Cholesterol: 15mg Protein: 15g Ingredients: Ciabatta Cucumber sauce Peppers,{Canola Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Garlic, Spices, Vinegar, Lemon and Salt} tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers, lettuce leaf, Gorgonzola Cheese ,salt and pepper blend. :( You can get your daily sodium need ;) in one sitting at the Sodium Bread Company... http://kimberlycoy.blogspot.com/2004/10/too-much-sodium.html |
