I recently graduated from college and am planning to become a US Marine or Air Force Officer. At the moment, I'm about 6'1 and weigh about 148lbs. My pecs are pretty developed, but I definitely need to gain more mass w/o becoming too bulky. I've been working about for the past month, trying to get in better shape for the officers program (ESPECIALLY back/trapezius and shoulders) and trying to increase my bench weight.
I've been working out a muscle group every day, but as I browsed some of these forums, it doesn't seem recommended. Can you take a look at my current workout and make recommendations?
Each workout lasts a little under an hour:
Day 1: Chest: Bench 5sx5r, decline bench 5x7
day 2: Back: 5x7 machine pulldown, 5x7 chin machine, 5x7 back row machine
day 3: Shoulder: Military press 5x7, barbell shrug-5x7
Day 4 (light weights): Squat 5x7, Lunge 5x7
Day 5: Arms: Bar Curl 5x7, Dumbell curls 5x5, close grip presses 5x7, Dumbbell tricep extentions
Day 6: Cardio: running
day 7: Pushups, situps
I'd honestly appreciate any replies. Thanks in advance.

I think that it is fine except for 2 things...there is no rest at all planned in, and I do not like push ups and chest day so close together. THat is all.

Ok, i'll try spreading the pushups and chest day apart.
Is the number of sets/reps good also? Someone at the gym the other day told me I should do less sets and just heavier weights, like 3x8 he advised.

The only problem I see is that you don't want to try to be an Army Officer...why not? (just kidding)

hahahah, i thought about it, but i don't think it's for me. why, are you an army officer?
so my exercises/sets/# of reps are all fine?

The guy in the picture with me is an Army Officer, 2LT in Field Artillery. Don't tell him I said this, but given the times and the wars going on Air Force would be the best choice, Marines is intense, but from what I see they are getting to break away from stuff a little bit. Which is fair because they are the ones that go in first and they have the most dangerous jobs if you look at the death rates. If you are looking to get in shape for PT tests, then you can get books that are branch specific that have workouts for you to follow to prepare yourself. I've heard that some of the things marines get tested on have not a whole lot to do with strength, but are more like weird things you have to practice to get good at such as being tested on how far you can throw a ball while you are on your knees. There are military guys on the board who can help you out better than me.
