Read about this in mens fitness...pretty cool excercise and you really break a sweat if you keep the rest breaks aroudn 15 secs. I did it today for inclines but can be done a variety of ways I guess....
Get in a smith, load the bar with 30% of one rep max.....keep this very very light.... Coem down like you normally would bench, drive up Fast and let go of the bar( yes you read it right)when you catch ABSORB.....don't catch stiff armed, reset and go.......do no more than 3 reps........pretty cool excercise for somthing different. -------------- My drinking squad, has a cheerleading problem!! |

That can mess up your joints, cuz ur meant to through the bar up heaps hard its like throwing a punch in thin air... but instead you can do it for pushups (example clapping while doing pushups) or do that pushup clap but dont clap just push as hard as can then lower down slowly..

timmstar these are both plyometric exercises...one with the bar while the other is with once own body weight....
i saw this article also and seems interesting....although I actually tried a slight variation of this on regular flat bench press....I used like 135lb and let go of the bar slightly at the highest part of the lift...it left my hands for about 2-3 inches.....and then I caught it...I think I was experimenting on a speed bench press one day and came to it....it's defintely something new to shock the system...

a push up is only 2/3's of your body weight.......so doing 30-40% of your max...is actually less than doing pushups.

When you do these ballistic benches you should always do them on speed day and the bar should be lowered as fast as possible and reverse it as fast as possible and the bar shouldnt touch your chest.

Go to www.westside-barbell.com and then to articles and to most recent and scroll down a few pages. It explains everything there.

snoopy, lowering fast ad exploding is ballistic bench. andrew does a form of speed bench with a pause, so as to start the weight from rest, w/o momentum or stretch-reflex. These are to different forms of dynamic bench that should be mixed in for conjugated periodization, in other words, changing you me and de exercises.

a push up is only 2/3's of your body weight.......so doing 30-40% of your max...is actually less than doing pushups.
how can that be justified? that isnt for everyone.... that bs forumular... anyway wen ur joints fuk dun spread it on this board.. anyway speed pushups your rotary/shoulder would go with your body whilest pushing up..whilest balastic bench your rotary is going away from your body as your speed pushing it... yes there similar but so are Machine smith cage squats and free squats............. |

timm the motion is the sameh press/push up...same muscles are used....your example to prove us wrong only proves us right...
and the push up 2/3 of bodyweight and 30-40% of 1rm are actually different under different situations.... a fairly overweight guy with weak bench press....will do more work more on push up....a fairly light weight guy with huge bench will do more work on bench...so this one depends on the situation...

oops sorry menace...should of clarified.........about what I said.......for the most part the balistic bench will be quite lower.......long as you don't let your ego get involved.
Point is to work on the explosion more so that regular and "throw it" momentarly out of your hand. This is gd for me because of cheerleading. -------------- My drinking squad, has a cheerleading problem!! |

a;so timmstar..........your also saying jumping, squat jumps etc. would be bad for joints as well too? I don't think any sport for the most part is good for the joints in the long run. -------------- My drinking squad, has a cheerleading problem!! |

i didnt say jumping or squat jumps was bad for the joints but now that u mention it yes they are bad and not an ego exercise... also menace u said it depends upon the situation that just basically repeats wat i was saying...
btw menace this aint a conversation of who is right or wrong... Yes wrestler i mean the rotary cuffs, there similar exercises but i still think there different in a way on the joints not everything is the exact same... green and red apples... |
