You have to remember, your body burns calories just to be alive, so you need a certain amount, and 1000 or less seems pretty low. If you are exercising, you'll need more calories to fuel your body to be active, so, 2700 could be realistic. Keep in mind, you should be eating five or six smaller meals per day... and yes, that will help you lose weight. Just ensure you are eating the proper foods. Check out the grocery list in the Specific diets forum...

It is, problem is many of us feel that if we starve ourselves or cut the calories back tremendously, we will lose faster and there can be nothing further from the truth unless you want to lose muscle and have no energy. Our bodies require a certain amount of energy to maintain. If we do not get that energy, our bodies react with desperation, it makes sure our fat is stored efficiently and goes searching for other means of energy - our muscle. This leads to the rollercoaster effect of dieting! It very nearly had to beat into my head!
What you can do is this, take your suggested calories, distribute them up into 4-6 small meals throughout the day, basically when you are hungry you will find it is about time to eat again! Do this for 2 weeks, and by combining a good exercise plan, you should see a weight loss, if you do not, subtract 200 calories from your daily total and try this again for two weeks.
An average weight loss is 1-2 pounds as it takes 3500 excess calories to gain a pound, thus a 3500 deficeit to take one off, so if you see this loss, you are on your way. You will have to adjust this from time to time, as you lose and weigh less, your body will need less energy/calories to sustain.
So, in answer to your question, YES, it is possible and YES it does work!
