All four times that I've tried to give blood, my iron count was too low... A problem, I'm sure a few of you could relate to. So I began taking iron with vitamin C (since vitamin C helps the iron absorb into your blood system). But I know that calcium has the opposite affect, so I stopped taking my calcium vitamins! Being a woman and needing both iron and calcium, what kind of foods can I eat that won't disturb my iron intake but still give me the calcium I need??? :surprised:

The best test would be to obtain a serum ferritin level. If it is below 15 or even 20, you can consider iron replacement.
The best form of iron replacement would be healthy red meat. I would also investigate a multivitamin containing iron.
Do not stop your calcium, as you mentioned it is needed. Stopping your calcium will just cause other problems.

bb1,
I am amazed at your knowledge. It seems you have an answer for everything. You must be an avid reader?

Take calcium and iron at seperate times in the day.
Calcium and Iron and magnesium all use the same receptors to get absorbed, so taking 2 together makes it harder for the other to get absorbed. Try taking one of each at a different meal. I hope this makes sense to you

hasn't the person who took your blood given you any advice, or a blood test?
