On Feb. 16th I started my FT program. I started at a weight of 180 (eating 2-3 times a day) and by the 27th had gotten down to 176 (eating 5-6 smaller meals a day).
As of today my weight has gotten back up to 178.5 and I am quite upset! What would cause me to gain weight again instead of continuing slow steady loss? My meals are clean and consists of good fish, chicken breast, ostrich, potatoes, broccoli, peas, green beens, whole wheat bread, brown rice, whey protein shakes and occassionally lean buffalo. My daily caloric intake suggests around 2300 calories a day and I typically consume 300-500 calories less than suggested.
I am very concerned that the frequency at which I am eating is contributing to the weight gains as I just can't believe it is muscle growth after only 3 weeks (especially since I am disabled and the only exercise I do is the 3 times a week routine suggested by FT).
Please give me any input or suggestions you might have as the weight gain is really upsetting after all the work I have been doing.
Thank you in advance

Don't live and die by the scale, you will only get discouraged as you are now. Weight fluctuation like that is mostly due to water weight. Look in the mirror for changes in your body and use the scale as a guide i'll go weeks without weighing myself on a scale and look for changes in my body rather than the scale. Stick to your program and go back to the scale in a few weeks. hope that helps. gl

Justin,
Thanks for the reply! It is neat that you answered because since I have been visiting this site I have viewed your photos dozens of times hoping that one day I might end up with your physique (don't worry I am a married, straight man so I'm not hitting on you LOL!) Your build fits EXACTLY with what I would like to eventually achieve.
As far as not weighing, I am scared if I go two or three weeks without checking the scales then the weight gains will continue and it will be that much more difficult to get rid of the excess weight. Keep in mind I originally came down from 230 many months ago so going back up is quite alarming!
My family says I have a problem (always looking in the mirror, pinching my fat, constantly talking about being overweight, thinking I look hideous, etc.). I can't seem to get them to understand that love handles and a droopy chin are not considered condusive to good health LOL. I have tried numerous times to get a photo uploaded so experienced members could give me some feed back but it never seems to work.

Thanks for the compliment luvthemtorts(nice s/n) good to hear your married:laugh: congrats on loosing the weight 230 to 189 is quite an accomplishment. First to get your photo up e-mail it to george at George@freetrainers.com and he'll get your photo up for you. You can get the physique want it's just going to take some hard work and time time time, nothing happens over night. consuming 300-500 less than the 2300 calories may be your problem right there. keep eating 5-6 meals meeting your 2300 calories a day and give it time weigh yourself on monday write your weight down and come back in 2 weeks if your the same weight that is a good thing now you have a baseline from there you can subract 250 calories and check again the next monday if your loosing 1-2lbs. your on track if not drop another 250 calories. For someone to loose or gain weight you have to be +or- 500 calories but you need to drop them gradually thats why having a baseline is key so you have a place to add or subtract from going in 250 calorie incriments(sp?) hope that helps a little more. keep us updated:)

Justin are you out there?
I did as you said and kept track of my calories for the past 8 days. I started with a base of 1850 to 1900 per day and have not lost anything since. I seem to have stabilizied at 177 (between 71 and 72 inches tall).
My weights have dramatically increased on most exercises so I assume that some muscle is being developed however I can't shake the love handles.
Should I go ahead and cut another 250 calories?
Thanks in advance
