Hey all. I have been consistently working out now for exactly a year. I started with machines and then moved to all free weights. This has been an excellent transition. I have gained incredible muscle with this routine. However, unfortunately I have gained size which was not my intentions. I had intended to replace my fat with muscles. I was told not to do cardio since I was only 110 pounds when I first started working out. Now I am 120. The weight gain isnt what bothers me. Its the actual size gain on the tape measurer. I havent altered my eating habits since then. The only difference is that I started drinking a protien drink (160 calories and 35 grams of protien)after everywork out. I dont know what to do cause I dont want to spend the money to get bigger jeans, but I love having muscle. Is there anyway I can be thin (back to my size 3) and muscular?
What's wrong with added muscle size? :) If it is only lean muscle you have added and not fat...then I wouldn't be concerned...How tall are you? 120lbs sounds like a healthy weight. Being told not to do cardio in my opinion was wrong...cardio isn't just for getting lean...it is also for the cardio (heart) aspect of it...Get a bodyfat measurement done to check your leaness...make sure that you haven't added fat...and check that you are eating a clean healthy diet...
good luck

First off...you answered your own question...by adding extra shake...you increased your total caloric intake and hence the added weight....Also keep in mind that muscle is heavier than fat so that you may just changed proportion of muscle to fat.....You sound to be in a healthy weight range so there's nothing to worry about...if you will lose weight then you will also lose some of the muscle u worked hard to get....I would just buy new clothes to fit the new and improved you...:)
