What is the best technique (loosely using best) for strength training? for example how should i do my reps on curls? speed of lifting...? second - is it possible to strength train some body parts like the calves, back, and shoulders, while developing mass in say the abdomen or pecs? what muscles benefit the most to strength training... say from a martial arts perspective?

Try looking on the "powerlifting/strength training" thread - some really great programs...

for strength repititions should be between 1 - 6 and you have more "rest time" between sets 3-5 minutes maybe up to "30minutes" depends what works for u as far as recovery.. try 3-5 minutes, try looking in powerlifting thread again u obviously didnt look long and hard enough theres a sticky up top for westside template try that routine for strength gains..
