Hey all, I am a bit frustrated. I'm 5'10" 32yrs and I've been working out for about two years and have gone from a fat 210lbs to a very lean 165lbs. I work out 4-5 times a week for an hour or so and usually follow a 10 or 12 week program. Problem is...I can either lift heavy weights/low reps...or lighter weights/higher reps according to whatever program I'm following, but I just don't seem to feel that "good soreness" the next day like I used to get. I'm not talking pain here but that nice tight buzz running through the body part you worked on the day before. I can't help but feel as though I've hit a plateau or stand still no matter how much I change my routine. can diet be affecting this phenomenom?? Any advice welcome. Thanks all

Time for a change....you can try pre-exhausting the muscle. For example prior to squats do a fairly heavy set of leg extentions, rest briefly and do the Squats heavy. Totally change your exercises too. If you always do Barbell curls, try cross cable curls. Always do the same leg exercises, try walking lunges with weights...get the idea ??

You are probably very highly trained, and there is a good chance you may not get that "soreness" much, if at all. I know I have to do somethning pretty spectacularly different to get any kind of soreness any more. I think it may be normal. Some people I know that I have worked out with and done the exact same exercises say they get sore all the time, but I never do. I know one thing, when I dropped back on weight after my first 2 sets of overload, and did sets with 75% or so of that weight, I do "feel" it much more while doing it, and "feel" it for a while later, but not really that "soreness" any more. as Leslie says, may be time for a change any way it goes. It helps me.

Thanks for the advice ... Itroisi and bb. Perhaps my system is highly adapted to weight training. I'll try the lighter weights sets after overloading bb spoke about. Not that I'm a masochist or anything...just miss that good workout "soreness" the next day I used to get in my first year of training. Thanks again
