I have lost 59 pounds since Sept 2004, I have 35 more pounds to go, should I just be doing cardio, and eating right, and not do weights right now? I want to loss weight, not gain it, and I want muscle tone as well, but I am afraid that the muscles will poke out my fat right now, and I thought maybe I should just lose the pounds first, then start toning and shaping my body after the weight is off....is this right? I am a 38 year old female, and had a baby 6 months ago, and I am afraid of doing weightlifting, in fear of being wider and bigger, for instance, my abs, I have an ab lounge, but I don't want my stomach sticking out further than what it is already...advise on how to reach my goal would really be appreciated!Want to lose the fat as quick as possible, and cellulite on my butt and back of thighs.

CONGRATULATIONS, that is one mean task you have achieved and GOOD LUCK with the last 35!

You'll find that the professionals on this board are major advocates of combining cardio and resistance/weight training in your endevours to shape up. They will dispell the belief that you are going to gain excessive weight back. Yes muscle is heavier than fat, however doubtful that it will take you back up 35 pounds. Also after reading through these posts you'll appreciate the frustration many members are having to finally see the results of weight training. Body fat covers the muscle and unfortunately doesn't allow your trained fibres to "poke through the fat", we wish.
Truth is resistance training burns calories and calories are stored in fat. So go for it. If you haven't signed yourself up for a training schedule do so. It will help keep you focussed on shaping up and I reckon give you the boost to work your way through your last hurdle.

There is no way of losing weight in certain body areas, however you can firm certain places by exception.

Thank you so much, so you are saying to add the weightlifting although I won't see any real weightloss, but more of a firm build and inches lost?

Yes that is more less correct, however with a clean diet there is no reason why you shouldn't see weight loss as well. In fact that is the likely course of events and only when you are down to a decent fighting weight will you really be able to appreciate the beauty of your honed toned body.
