Hey guys...

I've been weight training now for about 5-6 months now (only the later 3 months with a 2-body part split, 3-days a week) and MAY have to take a week off because I'm going on vacation. FIRST OFF, CAN I AFFORD THE BREAK AFTER ONLY WORKING OUT 5-6 MONTHS STRAIGHT?

When I get back into things, will I be weaker OR should I be able to lift the same 'amount' of weight I did right before the break or will my body be a little weaker because of the layoff.

Also, do I still keep pouring on the protein? 1g of protein per lb; 170 g during vacation?

Thanks a lot guys... I appreciate the input!

Taking a week of is a good thing every 8 weeks or so. You might feel a little weaker when you get back in the gym, but your strength will come right back and some. And since your not working out keeping your protein up is a must to preserve any gains that you have made.

keep protein intake at around 1g or maybe even up it to 1.5 g......also take some fish oil supplement....it helps spare muscle....

1 week is nothing....you might actually make gains....by taking the week off.....

I just took a week off for vacation also. When I went back though I was an animal with a whole lot more intensity then before. I think a week off is good every few months.

BUMP ecle5c!!!! same here...

and irnlady, concerning your diet, if you can, stick to the same protein amount. and for the lifting part, you will lift the same amount, dont worry.
i can tell you this becasue my personal experience: i take a week off every 6-8 weeks of training.

get a set of bands.....of various resistances.....very compact and you can do many of the exercises.....anywhere.....anytime......you can get those for under 100....

9 days is not too bad either....same thing...you may actually get benefits if you been training hard......

I agree with everyone but will emphazise one thing that was mentioned. Keep the protein level up there, keep eating. Without food the muscle will shrink. I learned that the hard way and currently trying to regain what I lost. It sucks. Took so long to gain and so fast to lose.

This may have already been said as I havent read all the posts, but keep up the protein and LOWER the CARB intake as you would on any other none workout day
For me I find that when I have a week or so off after a few months of working out, if my carb intake remains the same my body seems to store it more as my activity levels are currently down and I think my body prepares for the next few months of strenuous exercise by storing some supplies so to speak, the body is smart and will adapt and try and stay a step ahead of you.
