In this sport, the more internet savvy of us or even just question oriented can find pro articles and con articles for almost every workout, diet, etc. There is so much science involved, yet when opinions are mixed in the brew, then things are altered somewhat. I remember when it was just simple...you just worked out, ate a good diet and rested. Didn't make a doctoral thesis out of training. Then big business got involved...Hell, I remember when I drank water when I was thirsty. Now, if we don't drink a gallon or two a day we might die! LOL...You think the billion dollar water industry has anything to do with it? I don't know if any of you saw a George Carlin standup on HBO where he says jokingly, when did americans become so dehydrated that we all need our own personal watering bottle with us at all times? Anyway, lets try not to get too scientific with this training. Remember always to fall back on basics. These always work. Good luck all, and don't go anywhere without your bottle of water! You never know when you might get dehydrated and need water immediately!

I think that needed saying, especially since there’s been what seems to be a large number of new posters trying to set up a basic program that will work for them. You can submit a believable rebuttal based on studies for a large percentage of the posts on FT. One thing that I think deserves mentioning is that in most cases, people on here aren’t necessarily citing something from a study by a bunch of obese nutritionists, but rather they’re stating what they believe based on study, experience and hopefully something that has shown results. No offense to the nutritionists out there but I’ve yet to run across one in my limited experience with them that’s shown themselves to be really sports oriented, not to mention a body builder. Case in point is I was reading several articles on a reputable site (not one of the muscle rags) yesterday and read 3 completely conflicting approaches but all of them more or less valid.

Good post as usual. I sometimes think when I see those at a gym that have to be wearing the wrist wraps, knee wraps, elbow wraps, the special shoes, headband, wristband, weight belt, gloves, wrist straps, mouth guard so they do not wear down the teeth, then go an load up for a set fo squats have a spotter help get the bar off and have 135 on it. This took them 1/2 hour just to get to the first set. We over complicate things, like BB1 said KISS- Keep It Simple Stupid!

A few things I've heard on this topic:
"The body hasn't read any textbooks." Sometimes no matter how much scientific evidence there is, it just doesn't ring true for someone. There are people out there that have succeeded on low protein diets from what I hear. The possibilities are endless. There was a discussion on another board about PWO carbs. One guy mentioned that he never took carbs PWO until he learned he was supposed to. It didn't stop him from making progress, though. So despite all the discussion, it all goes back to the basics.
