Just wondering what you guys use on the front squat, and the advantages and disavantages of each were. Here are the choices: when doing a front squat, do you...
Rest the bar on the front of your shoulders and cross your arms to grab the bar???
OR...
Use the traditional olympic front squat with the bar resting above your chest held with the tips of your fingers like the end position of a powerclean???
I use both on occasion. I feel its easier to keep good form with an olympic style front squat. Probably less stress on the lower back. Which is why I alternate. To get that extra stress every now and then.
What do you think/use?

arms over, crossed. Other way hurts my wrists.....and the way i'm built, its hard to get my hands parallel with the floor, my arms and forearms get in the way.

I dont have that problem, but then, I usually weigh in at about 145, so my arms are considerably smaller than yours. I do feel it in my wrists, but only after a few sets, and then I usually switch to a crossed arm grip if I am continuing my sets. But for some reason the olympic grip seems to feel better to me.
-------------- The best feeling in the world is the feeling you get after a tough set of squats after you step back from the power rack and throw up all over the floor.

I have been trying to add the front squat to my workout, but I can't seem to find a balance point where I feel comfortable under the weight. I tend to get pull forward by the weight, but when I try to lean back, I feel like I am going to fall over. Any suggestions??

Lighter weight, I'd suggest.
Late reply, but just in case you ever check back.

way to go smallbig. I know you would find a way to work around your injury. As long as you find a way, nothing can keep you down. Thats one hell of an attitude.

It is actually called a Zercher Squat( I may have mispelled it). Good way to hit it from a different angle

I use my Olympic grip all of the time so I get better at racking my cleans. If you are not doing cleans then I would say go with what feels good. I like Zercher squats too. Use a towel or a pad though. I pinched a nerve in my forearm and it was numb for a month. HA!
