Ok, we get many posts about folks looking for motivation. Well, some external help and encouragement is always welcome and appreciative, but in the end you have dig deep down inside and provide the gut response to your quest for better health.

Gluttony for some reason is socially acceptible. Obesity(and because you are just 20 lbs. overweight does not mean you don't fit in this category, it is a relative term with this article) is a symptom of a much deeper issue...basically gluttony.

And please spare me the tired old "victim" mentality excuse about thyroid conditions or hormonal imbalances being the root cause. Very little obesity is legitimately attributable to medical issues. The bottom line is that most obesity is a direct result of one thing only, and that is OVEREATING! This self evident truth may make some mad, but sometimes this is what it takes in the end to get the idea across.

Every thing many of us do revolves around food. Think about it, you and some freinds get together for a function, and everyone brings a dish. Or everyone goes out to meet at a buffet. The outcome is normally predictable, everyone ends up eating too much food, most of which is fattening and unhealthy. And then there is always room for desert, as you already messed up, right? You have to get your "moneys worth" from that buffet also!

Anyway, the point here is an eye opening. Think about what you are doing, you do not have to eat a ton of food just because it is there. If you go to a buffet, there is no reason you can't fill one plate with quality food, and stop.

Willpower, willpower, willpower. The longer you do it, the easier it becomes. Hope I didn't offend anyone, but read a similar article and it hit home and thought I may provide some motivation for folks who need to take a hard look at their habits and adjust. You can do it, we all can.

I totaly agree, while a few cases of obesity are medical caused. Most, my selfe is plain overeating. And while I would always say for the obese to go to a doc to make sure nothing is wrong, willpower is key...good post BB!

i totally agree to bb1... as i belong to a family where MORE EATING is taken as GOOD thing.. and the person who eats MOST is appreciated... now the truth behind it is.. many of the people who use to eat a lot and without thinking cannot move around anymore.. cuz they are sooo much BIG and OVER WEIGHT that it pretty difficult for them.. plus the joint pains due to heave load on the bones etc... THANX GOD that my generation has understood this and we are trying to avoid unhealthy lifestyle..
you people are great.. keep up the good work bb1

Thanks for the post. While I have been overweight about 80% of my life I can understand. I'm not sure why people in our society are so quick to blame something else. I know why I overeat. I know I feel better when I don't and get my fat a$$ to the gym. I blame myself...completely. I'm not sure the word "willpower" is the key, for me anyway. I find other things to do besides eat. So, "sublimation" works better for me. Hey, whatever it takes, right?

I ran outta gas. I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from outta town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake, a terrible flood, locusts. It wasn't my fault!! I swear to God!!

As much as we don't talk about it, the healthier you are the more attractive you are to the opposite sex. Subconsiously, both men and women are attracted to members of the opposite sex who have physical characteristics that represent good health. This is because our subconcious is based on the concept of survival and this includes choosing the best mate. Consider this: In pre-historic times, that meant choosing the individual who had the best physique so he/she could hunt, protect and live long. So much so that we do not even need to be looking for these signs of health in others because our subconsious already does it for us!

It's absurd to assume that within a few thousand years our genetics have changed to ignore this fact of our subconsious predisposition towards being attracted to healthy members of the opposite sex. So if you are lean and when you go to a function or walk down the street after jogging or doing some weights, just keep in mind that all the women around you, and I mean ALL, are subconsiously aware that you are a good "catch". Lol, of course the conciousness always comes into play but, hey, it's not everything!

Take care.
