Has it been your experience that caffeine (2 cups of coffee) before workouts provides a boost in performance/stamina? In moderation, is this practice harmful?

caffeine before exercise has been shown to increase performance during prolonged endurance exercise and short-term intense exercise. It's also been shown to help release stored body fat so that it can be used as energy. But beware, because caffeine also acts as a diuretic. It speeds urine production and dehydration, which robs your body of the water it needs for cooling. The recommended dosage is 3- 9 mg per kilo of body weight (avg of 2- 6 cups) so sounds like you're safe.

Just a little side note, If you have any type of skin disorders, IE: exema, psoriasis, it will become agrivated and flare up from an increase in caffein. My personal experience.

It was my understanding that although caffeine causes you to pass more urine after drinking, this is balanced by a reduction in output later, so that dehydration doesn't occur.

you are right princess. the effects are pretty small, and go away with tolerance to caffeine. just somethin else to beware of tho..

Yes the caffeine before workouts helps especially in endurance exercises...diuretic effects have been overly exaggerated over the years....recent research suggests that the effect is quite mild....but drink plenty of water when you workout...

Caffiene, in the long run, will hurt your body. It has been my experience that many of the people I work out with tell me that there HR elevates past the point that they deem acceptable, and some have reported becoming winded quicker while exercising.

i usually have a cup with my preworkout meal if im going to the gym in the am.. and it doesnt bother me. do drink a ton of water while im at the gym though, as that will counteract any potential negative effects of the caffeine, and make sure u stay hydrated.
