I use to throw the shot and disk! You need to do power lifting movements. I used to concentrate on squats and bench pressing. Also work on thoose lats. Also do plyometrics stair jumping and box jumping you need to be explosive. Not to brag but I used to throw in the mid 40's lol and back then we used the slide for shot. NOw with the use of the spin the weights are flying further lol.

Ive been in track 2 years now, um for shot and discus you need the entire upper body. Work on shrugs, tri-s, bi-s, lats, shoulders, chest, and back. Try to do those around twice a week if your a beginner. The most a week is 3 otherwise you will overtrain.
-------------- Don\'t think you cant do it know you can do it.

do power cleans and snatch....both train body for explosiveness and strengthen shoulders....

The shot believe it or not most of the power comes from your legs. I have seen a guy who was rail thin throw 50 feet just on his speed technique and explosiveness alone.
