I'm 5'10, 128 lbs. Don't laugh, I'm not anorexic. I have a matter of thighs.

When I speak of diet and exercise, people laugh at me. Gym staff too. All thinking that I represent the reason people come to the gym. But no one feels my pain and discoragement of being skinny with flabby thighs & butt.

I've had a trainer who used heavy weight, a nutritionist who wanted me to eat 2300 daily calories and do no cardio (fear) & many others advise to lift heavy on legs. All this results in bigger thighs and butt. All are impressed with the dedication I CAN have to TRY to achieve results. I'm a typical spoon shape.
I want to seriously tone up my thighs and butt to balance my flat abs, toned arms and skinny calves. I don't care if I don't loose a pound, but I feel the dimpled, cellulited and disproportion of the area between my waist and knees need to loose a few. Lately, I've been doing the no exercise and eating less (sometimes) as I am sooo discouraged.

My hubby's from St. Tropez and were going to to visit June '05. I know that I can have a truly hot body. So what's the skinny? More or less cardio, more or less reps, more or less food or am I stuck with these thighs for life.

hay lisa.. cool down.. first of all.. welcome to FT.. and keep ur spirit up.. don't lose ur motivation girl..

now about those butt & thighs.. have u tried the program offered by FT for those areas??...

try getting a exercise plan for urself.. during that u'll be asked for specific areas u want to concentrate on.. select the "Tone Glutes & Thighs" program there...

to tell u the truth.. to tone those places.. u'll have to work out all of ur body.. and yeah.. with weights.. starving urself will increase body fat more..

if u don't understand something.. or have some more questions.. try fitbuddy at the bottom of page.. u'll get tons of discussions on topics u r looking for...

hope i helped..

Have you checked out your body fat to muscle ratios? Maybe that can give you some insight into what you need to accomplish. There are many thin people that have little muscle, that is most likely why they suggested no cardio and heavier on the weights. There isn't such a thing as losing weight in one specific area, so you have to look at is as possibly having too high of a body fat percentage ("dimpled, cellulited and disproportion") and the only way to change that is through healthy eating and exercise, in particular with your case, weight lifting would be most beneficial vs. cardio. Remember, if you have an area that is carrying more fat, if you build up your muscle in that area but still continue to have not so good eating habits, your muscle will increase but may just seem to increase your size vs. lessen it, but if you eat well, decrease your body fat percentage then you should see results. Don't stop after two months, it takes time to remove that fat and for a while it may seem like you are gaining bulk and you have to keep going until that fat starts to lessen. A five pound slab of fat is much larger in size compared to lean muscle as you probably know and so a little extra fat can still be a big pain! You really need to create a good combination - not as you said, no exercise and good eating, it has to be both for you to see the ultimate results! Good luck to you!

Thanks for the advice. I took one of those breath body fat calulators and my RMR ranked 1040. People tell me that's very low. My body fat percentage is 16%, of course mainly in thighs. My BMI is 18

You're right, when I consistantly worked out for 2 months, my thighs felt firmer, but much larger and still flabby. You're also right that my diet was a mess.

I expected ibody change to take longer than 2 months, but I feared I'd be 2 additional months in the wrong direction. Should I not do cardio? I've planned for the free trainer 3 day, butt and thighs, weight loss plan, starting next week.. It suggests eating 1740 calories. I feel preety comfortable with that. Is that enough for SOME gains or should I not be on the "weight loss" regime.

I don't want to gain a lot of mass just before summer, but would like to start that in fall. I'd like to put on a much lean mass as possible, but know I'll have to eat a lot.

I love that everyone's advise is consistent and solid. You all must be leading me in the right direction. Thanks a million.

skinnyfatthighs... 16% for a female is pretty good body fat.. i'd suggest u to go along with weight training.. as u build muscles for upper body and lose fat from lower body u'll start getting a proportioned physique.. and it'll look good...

one thing i would suggest is.. don't make ur goals on the basis of summer and fall etc.. health and good looking is a life time thing.. so if ur body doesn't looks good in this summer (to only u that is).. don't worry.. if u kept on with proper training and diet u'll look amazing in the next summer...

wudn't it be better to NOT look good in THIS summer and look good for the rest of UR LIFE? :).. (though i think u'll be looking good this summer too)

so keep up the good work.. go along with the training program and stay healthy...
