Hi.. i know this is going to sound funny to the old timers are pros.. but i am posting this due to my own experience in lack of knowledge about body building.. and time it took me to figure these things out... i was also afraid to ask as i might be flamed or something.. (which i figured out later is NOT the idea on this site thankfully)...
these jargons were new for me... and all of the advance people here use to talk using them.. so i thought maybe it'll be a good idea if i write a little post about them...
these are the jargons and their explanations for the new commers who have never done body building... or if they have done it.. they have done it at home...
- Rep: (Repitition) This is one complete movement of weight from starting point to finish (i.e. back to starting point)
- Set: Collection of Reps upto a certain number.
- 1rm: (One Repitition Maximum) This is the maximum weight u can pick for one rep.. i.e: if u put more weight u cannot complete the rep... and if u put less weight u can do 2 reps
- Spotter: A person who helps u perform ur exercise and help u lift a little bit when u fatigue out on a certain set.
- Spot: help provided by the spotter.
- Negatives: This is the portion of exercise when u r lowering the weight.. e.g: downwards movement in the bench press.
- Forced Reps: These are the reps u do at the end of the set with the help of a spotter.
- Drop Sets: As you reach failure on a particular set, strip some weight from the bar, and continue doing reps.
if i'm wrong on something please correct and if u want to add something please do so.. this will be a BIG help for newbies...
