Hi ya'll...
I started a rigorous training regiment 3 weeks ago in order to prepare for the Firefighter's Challenge in July. I was told that I need to lose 25 punds. I am 65 inches in height and 212 pounds. I had my body fat percentage measured with a density test and it shouwed that I am 8% body fat. I am guessing that is what I need to lose in order to get my body weight down, but in the past 3 weeks I have gained 7 pounds. I have changed my diet drastically. I have cut out all sugar, fried foods, anything high in fat and calories and started drinking a lot of water, but all I am seeing is muscle definition and weight gain. What do I need to do to lose weight, but keep gaining in strength?

Oh Yeah! I will mention that I have been on medical steroids all of my life due to asthma. And I also do 5 days a week of 30 minute cardio

You have obviously gained muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat. You can actually be gaining weight, but losing fat. If you would displace one for the other for example, the scale may be the same, but your tone is much better. As you say, you are seeing muscle definition. This is a gain of muscle and loss of fat. This is great! Not sure what the problem with that is? Don't go crazy looking at the scale. It is very decieving. Good luck, and keep up the great gains.

To get the %bf down do lots more cardio and eat a very careful diet, remembering to eat 5-6 times a day with suitable protein in every meal. However from what you have said (8%bf) there is little fat left to lose. If you’re primary goal is the scales it sounds to me like you will have to do it at expense of your muscle! I have been the same weight and had an 8inch change in my waist and almost doubled my bench, scales tell you very little.

You are making impressive gains, but if you really care more about your weight your strength gains will have to be sacrificed. Basically keep up the good work on the diet front and boost up the cardio but lay of the heavy weights.

Yeah, I don't think that bodyfat is going anywhere, it's already low. You need to lose 25 pounds in order to compete???? Is it really absolutely necessary? If you lose 25 lbs. of muscle it will probably make you weaker.
