I do two exercises per day per body part on that day 4 sets each exercise. I start with a machine exercise first then go to a free weight to isolate the body part on the second exercise. When I get to the free weight exercise the part I'm trying to work is sometimes too tired to perform that function from the previous machine exercise. I warm up with 5 mintues cardio and wait 2-3 mintues before I switch to free weights. Any suggestions?

For example today I did shoulders and started with the Dual Axis Overhead Press. The machine has a dual grip so I did two sets on one grip and two on the other grip. Then I went to the free weights and did 2 sets sitting lateral raises and 2 sets dumbell presses. I know the free weight and machine exercises are very similar in actions but how do I get around that? Thx for the response

Lower your weight, make sure the seat on the machine is the right height. Oh and remeber , lateral raises are tough and don't expect to go heavy. You can get bad tendonitis if you go to heavy with these. They are a great exercise.
How come only 2 sets?

Do the free weights first, these incorporate the stabilizers, and will give you more "production" in the this araea. The machies take the stabilizers out of the equation, and this is mainly why the free weights feel so hard.

To answer your question carivan I do 2 sets lateral and two sets dumbbell so a total of 4 free weight sets. This is my first week and it was hard for me to choose between the two exercises so I split up both. I'm trying to improve my body in all areas so after 8 weeks I can incorporate the big exercises like the bench press and squats with some creatine. I'm still getting used to form and what I should and shouldnt be feeling on each exercise at this point. But great answers btw :)
